You Scratch My Back, I'll Scratch Yours - Today's Recap, 8/18/10
Okay.
Was this episode everything I hoped for and more? No. But did I hate it? Absolutely not.
There were many good things that happened in today's episode:
1) FREAKING HENRY FOUND BARBARA. Thank God. He held her and was really sweet with her and I loved his team-up with Paul for the rescue. And now everybody knows that Iris was behind the whole thing! Can we run her out of town now, please?
2) Reid confessed that Chris was the mysterious patient at the Lakeview and thereby put Luke's "ZOMG YOU'RE CHEATING ON ME!" worry to rest. He really only did this because he cares about Luke as much as he does, because if it had been anybody else who asked him, he wouldn't have divulged the information.
3) Bob and Kim fighting over Chris and Reid while eating ice cream = LOLARIOUS. Kim is clearly Team Chris and Bob is clearly Team Reid without either of them actually saying it. Therefore they are trying to agree to disagree without it affecting their marriage (which really isn't working that well :-P).
4) Reid referred to Luke as his "hot side dish" or something of the sort that just made me imagine him licking Luke from head to toe. (Or maybe it just made me realize that I'd like to lick Luke from head to toe. And Reid, too, for that matter. *shrug*)
5) The more Chris acts like an idiot with his health, the more he gives to Reid. Because while Chris is dumbfounding the trustees with his lack of charisma, knowledge, and commitment to the position, Reid has them wrapped around his little finger with only a few words out of his mouth. Also, Reid is being honest when he talks to them. I truly believe he wants what he says he wants for the hospital, and that's not lost on the trustees.
6) Luke and Reid call each other on their shit. I thought I should mention this again, because I adore this facet of their relationship. They did it today: "You're still mad about the patient at the Lakeview." - "And you're lying to me." Call each other on it, boys!
And now for the bad stuff:
1) Anything to do with freaking Iris Whatever-Her-Last-Name-Is. I don't care if she drowns herself in bourbon; just get that freaking clown off my TV!
2) Chris and Katie got it on at the end of today's episode. Whatev. I'm not even going to waste my time being angry at the show that they've been together for five seconds and are already spending the night together while Luke and Reid have had months and months of opportunities for sex. This is how the show is, and I'm still on Team Optimism. If TPTB had the guts to do what they did for Nuke sex, I think they'll have the guts to do it for LuRe sex. It's most likely being put off more for storyline purposes than anything else. (See? That's my optimism talking. :-))
3) Reid telling Luke that he was overreacting about the patient at the Lakeview situation. That may be true, but...did Reid forget how he acted when he saw Luke and Noah laughing together at Java and assumed they were back together? The guy practically sprinted away from the place and then wouldn't answer Luke's multiple phone calls afterward. If that wasn't a major overraction on his part, then I don't know what is. So that was the pot calling the kettle black, if you ask me. (Though I don't mind, because L/R worked everything out today.)
So, all in all, not the most thrilling episode, but it wasn't horribly awful, either. I kinda question Katie for not questioning Chris more about his decisions regarding the party with the trustees, though. Everyone was like "YOU NEED TO SCHMOOZE MORE, CHRIS! GO FORTH AND SCHMOOZE!" and Chris turned around and was like, "PEACE OUT!" and Katie just went with him. EH?! I guess getting her into the sack was more important than assuring his (possible) future as the Chief of Staff. Which reinforces my belief that Reid is the best man for the job, whether Chris is healthy or not, because Chris doesn't seem to want the position for any organic reasoning, he just doesn't want his Daddy to give it to Reid. So that's that.
Chris acting like a dumbshit and therefore practically handing the COS job over to Reid = scratching Reid's back. Reid scoring Chris drugs and injecting him to keep his stupid ass alive = scratching Chris's back.
Luke instilling Reid with a better sense of sympathy towards his patients and consequently helping him grow not only as a doctor but also as a man = scratching Reid's back. And Reid being as straight-forward and unabashed as he is, while also boosting Luke's confidence = scratching Luke's back.
Okay, weird analogy, I know. If you don't like it, then let's just imagine Luke and Reid scratching each other's backs in more intimate (read: sweaty, steamy, and loud) settings. ;-)
And on that note, I'm off to take a cold shower um, do other things! :-D
