I think that this decade is every bit as conformist as the 1950s were rumored to be, except instead of straight-up conformity, our suburbs are drenched in this disgusting self-assured cynicism that tells everyone "I know it's stupid, but that's how the system is. I will go ahead and do what I have to, because I need to advance myself within the system. I know it's wrong. I know grades don't matter or measure anything and I know that all these random rules are bullshit but I am going to sit here and go along with it because that's how I get out of it." But that idea of inevitability is every bit as much a byproduct of the bewitchment of ideology as "I agree with the system" is. It just makes you think that you know the system, that you're beating it, but really you aren't. You're still jumping through hoops. You're still wasting time. You just think you're tricking someone. But no one is tricking anyone. And the hallmarks of ideology are that a) that it feels inevitable and b) it makes social constructs look beneficial, whether to society as a whole or to you as a plea-bargain for diplomas, or whatever.
that might have not made sense
it was very ranty
