The Golden Compass: 4/5
I hadn't heard many good things about this movie, but I actually really enjoyed it--it was very interesting. I haven't read the book since middle school, but I remembered a few things as I watched. It doesn't seem to me like much of a kids movie, even though you would think so from the content. My sister was a bit confused, and I could understand why, especially in the beginning. Not the type of movie you can just sit down and watch brainlessly--you actually kind of have to pay attention to what people are saying and doing. I think the main actress (the girl) did a good job. My mom told me to "watch critically" and I did notice some rather obvious comparisons to religion or whatever, but quite honestly, I don't care about that. I watched for the story, and I liked it. I need to re-read the books now.
Strike/Strajk - Die Heldin von Danzig: 2/5
It's not my type of movie, so I'm biased--I only watched because my parents wanted me to. From IMDB: "A nearly illiterate woman becomes one of the founders of Poland's Solidarity union." It's not that it's a bad movie, it's just a bit depressing (not the whole thing, but a lot of parts). Katharina Thalbach, who plays the main character, Agnieszka, is a very good actress--her emotions really draw you in. Good movie, but I wouldn't watch it again.
Starsky & Hutch: 4/5
I'd been wanting to see this for a while. It was on TV, and I missed the first 20 minutes or so, but I caught the rest. It was really funny! I haven't seen the show, so I had nothing to base it on, but I want to see it now. Ben Stiller isn't one of my favorite actors because of the kind of comedy he does, but I can't deny that he's funny. And Owen Wilson? Dang, he's gorgeous, and let me tell you, they are soooo easy to slash. Starsky (Stiller's character) even said at one point that he preferred blondes (I squeed rather loudly at that and pointed at the screen saying Ha! You seeeee!) *ahem* But I digress. Very very entertaining.
La Misma Luna/Under the Same Moon: 4/5
Got to practice my Spanish with this movie, so that was cool (although my parents put on English subtitles *pouts*). Me gusté mucho! A nine-year-old boy crosses the Mexican border to try and find his mother, an illegal immigrant living in L.A. The main actor (the kid) was amazing--did a fabulous job. America Ferrera played a small part, and she was as gorgeous as usual. Eugenio Derbez, who plays a character named Enrique, is hilarious in the special features--you gotta watch those too. The ending is a bit of an "rgggh" moment (no, I won't explain that :P). The movie gives you a look into what life is like for illegal immigrants in the U.S.
Burn Notice-Season 1 finale: 5/5
OMG. I'm addicted to this show again. Let me just say, I'm actually glad that I didn't get to watch the season finale last summer, otherwise it would have been torture waiting this long for the show to come back on. I can't say much more without giving stuff away, but seriously, watch this show! (Jeffrey Donovan is reason enough). Oh, and Fi rocks.
Fear Itself-6/26 episode: 4/5
I watched this show for the first time simply because Maggie Lawson and James Roday co-starred in this episode. I had no idea what the show was about, but I may actually watch another episode, because it was really interesting. Usually I hate horror movies/shows, but this wasn't too gory (almost none), so I was kinda okay with it. After the first few minutes of watching it alone, though, I begged my mom to come down and watch it with me because it was SO creepy (suspense scares me more than anything else). Basically, on the day of her wedding, a bride gets an anonymous note telling her that the person she is about to marry is a serial killer. The wedding takes place in what I believe is the creepiest church I have ever seen: dark, lots of candles, and freaky religious statues. James scared me--like, he was really really scary, and I'll never look at Shawn the same way. It was cool seeing both of them in a different setting, though. And the ending? Awesome.
