Drabble-song Meme

May 07, 2008 00:17

First off, yes, I am still writing Prisoner 1783, but I'm having a little writer's block with it. I'm not used to writing chapter stories. Anyhoo, I needed to write and get in the mood for Psych, hence, a writing meme.

Got this from tiptoe39:

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I picked Shawn/Lassiter from Psych.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Umbrella - Rihanna - 4:36

The rain poured down on the windshield. Shawn and Gus stared morosely out the windows, trying vainly to see out.

“I can’t believe you forgot an umbrella,” Shawn said.

“Me!” Gus exclaimed. “What about you?”

“Come on! Did you really expect me to remember something like that? Besides, I never pay attention to the weather forecasts.”

“Shawn, it’s been drizzling for half an hour.”

“Yeah, well-” Shawn jumped in surprise as the passenger door opened.

Lassiter peered in at them, holding a large umbrella.

“Lassy!” Shawn exclaimed. “Are you a psychic too?”

The detective glared at him. “I don’t need to be around you. Are you coming?”

Shawn grinned.

2. America - West Side Story - 4:59

“Hey Lassy, can we go on a trip?” Shawn begged, hanging off the older man’s arm.

Lassiter rolled his eyes. “Where to?”

“Uh…I dunno, let’s just take off! C’mon, it’ll be fun!”

“And end up in Mexico?” the detective asked.

Shawn pouted. “Have you been talking to Gus?”

“Oh yes, he warned me about your little road trips.” Looking at Shawn’s face, Lassiter cursed as he felt himself give. “Fine, we’ll go on a trip, as long as we don’t end up in any Spanish-speaking countries.”

“Not even Puerto Rico?” Shawn whined.

“Let’s stick to America,” Lassiter suggested.

3. Cheek to Cheek - Sanjaya Malakar - 2:54

“I love this song!” Shawn said suddenly, grinning. He looked pointedly at the man sitting across from him. “It makes me wanna dance,” he continued when he was met with silence.

Lassiter grimaced, wondering where O’Hara and Guster had gone. Looking around, he spotted them on the dance floor. Turning back to the table, he reeled back, finding Shawn directly in front of him.

The pseudo-psychic held his hand out, and for some reason, Lassiter found himself taking it.

4. Shine - Raven - 3:07

Lassiter loved watching the younger man prance around the station. Confidence practically radiated off of him. The detective tried to keep up his charade, but every once in a while, a proud smile would light up his face. No matter how many times he had tried to bring down Shawn’s spirits, the pseudo-psychic always managed to stay unaffected.

5. Erase - Mika - 3:39

Lassiter stared at the photograph, his jaw clenching. He wouldn’t cry, he couldn’t. Even at the funeral, he hadn’t shed a tear. And now…an arm wrapped around his chest from behind, soft curves pressing against him. It wasn’t right. He couldn’t forget what used to be. There was no replacement. Impossible to erase the memories.

6. What was I thinkin’ - Dierks Bentley - 4:21

Shawn groaned, his head in his hands. What was I thinking? I know it felt right, but… He forced himself to replay what had happened again. Lassiter had just been sitting there all…well, sexy, and what was he supposed to do, just ignore him? So Shawn had walked over, swaggered really, tugged a startled Lassiter around to face him, and kissed him full on the lips. The look of shock the detective showed was enough to send Shawn off in the opposite direction. Sitting alone in the bathroom stall, he shook his head in disbelief.

7. Play that Funky Music - 4:59

“I can’t believe you brought me here,” Lassiter hissed at Shawn.

“Dude, I can’t believe you’ve never been to a karaoke bar before,” Shawn replied.

Gus grinned and waved someone over. He whispered in the man’s ear and sent him off again.

Music started to play, and a microphone was stuck in front of Lassiter’s face. “Oh no, no way,” he said.

Shawn grabbed the mike and hauled the other man to his feet. Smirking, he held it out. “Play that funky music.”

8. I Know Where I’ve Been - Hairspray (Broadway) - 4:01

Shawn begged him not to tell. As he explained what it had been like before his job with the SBPD, Lassiter started to feel sorry for him. He had to report him, though. It was his duty-the younger man was duping the police. But as Shawn pleaded with him, the detective paused. Maybe.

9. Damelo-Juanes-4:07

Their eyes met across the station. Minutes passed until Juliet came up to Lassiter. When he had finished talking to her, he looked back up. Shawn was still watching him. Lassiter jerked his head slightly and walked outside. Shawn followed, and they stood facing each other in the parking lot. They didn’t have to say anything-they already knew what they both wanted.

10. The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles - 3:38

Standing in front of Shawn’s door for what seemed like the hundredth time, Lassiter sighed. He didn’t know how long it had taken him to realize how he felt, but for some reason he had kept thinking about the supposed psychic. Time and time again he had found himself parked in the street across from Shawn’s apartment, but had never managed to get down the walk. Tonight it would change; tonight was the night. Raising a finger, he rang the doorbell.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew! That was hard, and it made my hand hurt, but it was really fun too! *grins* I'm totally going to do this again! It's good practice.
