Sweet Child of Bali

Wowzers, yesterday was quite a day! We decided we were going to go to the night market for dinner last night and so we got a taxi and headed that way. When the driver pulled up to the "night market" it was basically desserted. We all were kinda stunned, the driver included. We were early, but it didn't look like anything ever happens there. (Maybe we'll give it another try like 10pm or something one of these nights) So the driver asked where we'd like to go instead. I told him we'd like Balinese food, authentic stuff. So he suggests Jimbaran bay for seafood. Ok, sounds good (not really knowing exactly where this is or what it'll be like at all). We start driving and driving and driving. Finally I realize we're going south of Kuta and I know the cab ride will be a bit pricy. Then we pass through a gate and the drive pays the security guard for our admission. Then he pulls up a small driveway and the next thing we know our car doors are being opened and we're being walked through the restaurant out to chairs & a table on the beach!

We ordered drinks and I made sure they took credit cards because I wasn't sure we'd have enough cash to pay for the meal and for the ride (our cab driver stayed there while we ate). They said you had to go in to order food, so I did and talk about fresh seafood. It was in an ice water bath. I got the red snapper and squid for us, asked them to grill it and they asked if I liked spicy food and I said sure. The meal was excellent! Then C & I noticed a small band walking up to the various tables and playing a tune or two for the people. They played Japanese songs for the Japanese people and played some other tunes like some classic rock. They really were pretty good. When they got to our table and found out we were from the US, the guitar player started playing the opening guitar to "Sweet Child of Mine". BIG LOLZ! It was great though. The cab ride back to the hotel was excellent and very affordable.

We decided to take a little nap before hitting the nightclubs. We don't have an alarm clock so we just figured we'd wake up when we did. We woke around 11:30 or midnight and washed up a bit and headed out. I was uncertain of where to go and C was letting me choose. So after touring the street we headed back to the Buddha Bar for a drink to figure out our next move. We headed up to the first club that looked happening that happened to be a gay club. We sat down and made friends pretty quickly like we do. Of course everyone loved my hair. So people were dancing and eventually a dude got C up to dance and she did here thang. Another drink or so and C was quite tipsy and having a blast. Then the manager said to us, now it's time for the show. Show!?!? Yes! A real life Balinese drag queen show! It was 3 drag queens performing a medely of gay anthems. And then....one of them grabbed C and put her in the show! ZOMG so funny! The crowed loved it and told us we needed to come back tonight.

We then hit one more bar and tried to hit a dance club called Double 6 but C was too tired so we headed back to the hotel. We have many options tonight, so I'm sure tomorrow's entry will probably have some fun stories as well. ;)

I'm getting hungry. Maybe Sumatran food for lunch today?
