Christmas Report 2011

Dec 26, 2011 12:00

It's a shame there's no "Merry" mood setting in LJ, it would be very fitting right now. I'll go with the next most apt one then as I give my report of how awesome Christmas 2011 went for me :D, because it was good and fun with family and worth writing down about, I think.

So where to begin? Well, I woke up 'pon the morning of the day well-rested and at a good time, about 8:30 say. I got up and got ready and relaxed for a little, still a bit sleepy, then my dad arrived and took me to see my family. First we stopped off to set new flowers at the grave of my mother (which wasn't a sad thing, really, it's nice to think of her), then we headed back to his place to spend the day with him and my brother. When we got there we started work on the main meal, then the three of us sat in the living room and opened the presents we'd gotten each other. For my dad I had got a fine bottle of wine and the Christmas number 1 on top, and my brother got Inception on DVD as well as some PC games I bought him earlier in the Steam shop. For my own haul I was pleasantly surprised, I'm not one to look for too much you realise. I'd named a few Discworld books I wanted hoping I'd get one or two, and my brother got me three, and wanted to start collecting the Buffy series from season 1, only to get all 7 on DVD. I also got Equilibrium, a movie that I've bought for multiple people but never owned myself, and on the pragmatic side a new set of PJs (I was down to one pair) and a book case to increase my amount of shelf (I need to put all my DVDs and games somewhere). Finally a wallet, because I've never bought my own so I guess that's a hint, and a 3-pack of deodorant, which wasn't I'd like to think. As for the day itself, we had ourselves a big yummy feast, and I've been on a diet of humble foods lately, making these richer ones twice as delicious at least. Roast potatoes and beef and carrots and swede, yorkshire puddings and little sausages in bacon, more than we could possibly need, all washed down with coke and much much later ice cream pretty much as a separate affair, God it was delicious and definitely worth the time to prepare. After we finished the main of it, we watched Buffy for the first 2-parter first season starter, and my brother had found out Ratatouille, a movie I'd not seen but sorely wanted to, began shortly after. We watched that and it was brilliant and adorable and fun, if I spend any Christmas money on movies I'm definitely getting that one. After that was a bit more TV, including a ridiculously cheesy Doctor Who Christmas episode, which starts as a giant spaceship closes on Earth, brings its guns to bear, then starts to explode. The Doctor runs through exploding hallways with liberal camera shaking, then ends up clinging to the outside of the ship by some wiring that's breaking. He tries to grab a space suit snagged usefully near at first, but it slips away into the void, so he lets go and flies after it towards Earth. He somehow catches up, puts it on and survives re-entry, and lands, not gently, but at crater-making terminal velocity, but survives that too and I lost track then cracking up honestly. After that I watched my brother try Arkham City for a while, one of the presents he got, and it looked God in most ways but good grief does it hold your hand a lot. "Harley slowed me down" "I need to get to the loading bay" "Harley slowed me down" "I need to get to the loading bay" "Harley slowed me down" "I need to get to the loading bay" "Harley slowed me down" "I need to get to the loading bay" if you think I'm kidding you're mistaken, there are parts where Batman will repeat himself every minute without end until the right path is taken. But anyway, My dad's partner got home late and liked the scented candles she got from me, and I hung about a bit more relaxing with them and watching TV, but it was getting late so I gave my goodbyes and hugs and dad drove me back to my place. And that was how my Christmas went down, wonderful food, nice gifts, good movies and warm company, in short it was ace.
