DAY 19 - 7/11/06 237.4

Jul 11, 2006 10:02

Bear Hollow to Corliss Camp
Weather: Sunny to hazy, clouds in morning
Animals: TOADS!

Got a reasonably early start this morning, but we were still the last to leave the shelter this morning. It was an easy hike down to the road and the new bridge over the Lamoille River looks fantastic. For some reason the climb over Roundtop killed me. Maybe it was the bugs, maybe the humidity. A combination, perhaps? Lunch at Roundtop kicked ass. I ate 1.5 cliff bars, .5 of a nutella/peanutbutter taco, and smoked a bowl. In the back of the shelter, there was a bench with a view to a valley with farms. We climbed Mt. Laraway with much sweating and gnashing of teeth. There is a rather nice view of a rural valley. Funny, it rather reminded me of something I just saw. Today was toad day! There were dozens from really tiny and wee to medium-sized. One was no bigger than my big toe nail. The descent into camp was a nice easy grade. The terrain today is reminding me more of the beginning of the trip rather than the high mountain areas. On our way in we passed TEAM, a family of four we've been following entries for since we started. They started June 16 and plan on finishing this Saturday (July 15). There's a sweet pooch with them by the name of Annie. They're a really nice family that seems to get along really well, exactly as I'd like to. Now that we're gorged on 3-berry cobbler it's time to sleep, if the mosquitos let us!
