Swatch comparison: Wallis and Peridot
After Butter London's Wallis sold out on the Butter London site, I made it a priority to track this one down! I'd been vaguely coveting it since Butter London announced their limited fall lineup.
Green is one of my favorite colors. (Despite the overwhelming amount of blue in my nail polish wardrobe right now - well, blue's a favorite too.) So even though I just got Peridot a couple of months ago I was sure this would find a place in my collection. :3
I begged
kishmet to give a look at Ulta, but they were sold out of the two colors I asked for. So, last Wednesday I set out on a quest. I was going to find Wallis and No More Waity, Katie OR DIE TRYING. ...okay, okay, or look through other sources online.
Luckily enough, I found them both at my local Ulta.
And so, a field expedition to Nordstrom was not required.

I described this as Chanel Peridot and Graphite mating and having a beautiful nail polish baby, and I still feel that way!

Even in the bottle, you can tell that Peridot is much more duochrome, but Wallis has a depth, and sort of a dark gold underlay for the olive "grunge-luxe" as Butter London calls it.

And here they are, on the nails. Peridot is on the index and ring; Wallis is on the middle and pinky.

My conclusion: these are both gorgeous nail polishes, very worth making a part of your collection.
Peridot is much more duochrome of the two. Something that's hard to capture on camera is how gold it is in person; and how MUCH the color changes in various different kinds of lighting. It is so beautiful, and so variable. It goes from gold to green to goldy-green. It morphs from indoor to outdoor lighting so completely you'd swear it's a different polish.
Wallis is more true to color. What you see in the bottle is pretty much what you get on your nails, but it POPS a lot more. It's a very durable polish, it's lasted me from Wednesday night through Sunday morning with only two chips. It's a beautiful dark olive that looks textured, it's packed with gorgeous micro-glitter that keeps me staring at my nails for half the damn day.
I would say if you're on a budget, Wallis is definitely an acceptable substitution for Peridot. But it's not the same polish at all, it's not even close to being a dupe. (For a budget dupe, check out Sephora's Diving in Malaysia.)
For me, it's very much worth having both polishes in my collection. They're gorgeous in their own ways, and I LOVE me a good green.
Next up: playing with the matte top coat I got, and finding strips to do a good French tip.
