A little slice of Southern Heaven

Aug 28, 2006 12:11

On Friday I went w/ a fellow southerner to see Lynyrd Skynyrd play at Konocti Harbor Resort. Initially a little intimidated by the fact that we were for sure the only dykes in the place, Boo and I fell in love with our little slice of heaven. Not only is Konocti a beautiful venue. But the people watching at a Skynyrd concert is unparalleled with anything else I've been to in a long long time.

There were your requesit mullets. And rednecks. And bikers. But then there were the generations of families there. The people with there kids and grandkids. The older couples who sat in front of us. And just loved loved loved us! Drunk as hell, they were dancing and hi-fiving everyone around them.

And both of us saw our kin in half the crowd. I've not felt that close to being home since I moved to California. Shit, since I left southern Illinois and Mississippi. That's how close it was to the real thing.

And no, we did not get our asses kicked. Rednecks might be ignorant, but they know a Skynyrd fan when they see one! ;)
