October musings

The weather has been cool enough all week to wear tall socks instead of the little store-bought ankle socks I'd been wearing all summer, so that's nice. Last night I wore my lacy blue kneesocks for the first time since I finished making them a few months ago. I really need to fit more knitting time back into my schedule somewhere. (Well, knitting-in-front-of-the-TV time, anyway.)

I have been wandering wistfully through Halloween merchandise in various stores. Decor I feel comfortable in buying, especially if it's good quality. Cookie cutters and cake pans make me wish we had a working oven. Costumes and accessories make me somewhat covetous if they're pretty or brightly colored or gothy -- but I have no plans for doing much in the way of dressing up, and already have better-quality spooky jewelry. Maybe I should at least dig out my half-felted witch hat. It needs me to finish felting it properly (though I risk shrinking it excessively), but what it really needs is for me to acquire crafting wire in sufficient length for the full circumference of the brim and replace the bits of twisted-together florist's wire that are failing to do the job properly.

I also just bought some flower seeds to put in the various beds for next year -- most especially including a seed mix that claims to work well in a bulb bed. Which means I'm well overdue for weeding and planting that bulb bed -- and also for clearing out that bed in the backyard along the garage. (And separating the red-and-white-striped mini-roses, and replanting the Ebb Tide in the front flowerbed...)
