Busy Sunday afternoon in which I took care of everything on my "to do" list and even had a bit of time to get some knitting done. (Though mostly over at Grandma's, since when we got home I spent a few more hours on the computer when I should have been vacuuming or watching DVRed stuff with Mom.) Excellently busy yesterday, too -- gym session and sparkly teal manicure, but also lawn mowing and loading the dishwasher and talking to a recruiter who wanted me to do an online typing test and send her my results. (92wpm with 100% accuracy -- and this was my sole attempt on the typing test site, without trying too hard.) So I talked to the recruiter again this morning -- just before Mom and I left to go drop her car off for another round of repairs and let her take my car to work today. I'm hoping Mom's car gets fixed today and we can go collect it tomorrow -- because the recruiter is setting me up for an interview tomorrow afternoon...
Also, I only just a few minutes ago realized that not having my car today means I can't take Grandma her dinner -- had to just pause to call my aunt to let her know that. Well, I guess that gives me extra time to get my computer stuff done this afternoon -- especially since I spent a couple of hours watching DVDs and getting started on Mom's Xmas gift rather than proceeding directly to online stuff once my breakfast was done. Mom had been leaving me in limbo with not having picked out a pattern to go with the
yarn she'd selected, and I was letting her postpone because I was finishing off my Slippery Socks in alternation with working on Grandma's socks. Sunday on the way to Grandma's I was putting in a few rows on the Warlock Sock while Mom drove, and she mentioned again how much she really liked the way they look, and we discussed how she doesn't have any of those lightweight self-striping socks like I've been making for myself. And I pointed out that I have another skein of Twisted Fiber Art Arial in
Circle, that I could spare for her Xmas gift, so the upshot was that I found a dark blue skein of KnitPicks Stroll for the toe-and-heel color (and she liked the idea of using that yarn for the ribbing, too) and last night I wound and halved the Arial and this morning after breakfast I cast on.
Which turned out to be trickier than expected, since I needed a size 3 circular needle, and what I had were two size 3s in use for my Warlock Sock and Come Along, Pond Kneesock, plus an empty package indicating I had a third size 3 needle that I couldn't track down. No size 3 interchangeable points, no size 3s in the stash of crappy third-rate needles I only resort to when I'm desperate -- oh, and since I'm stuck at home, I can't go out and buy another pair. (Well, unless I walk a few blocks to Hobby Lobby -- but it's raining, and their knitting selection kind of sucks.) I wound up finding size 3 DPNs and then transferring the Pond sock to them -- which involved knitting a couple of rows to make the transfer and leave the sock with the stitches evenly distributed across four separate needles -- so I could use that circular needle for Mom's socks. And then casting on for the toe.
And I'm going to need to measure her leg to see if she has the same measurements she did when I started her
German stockings, which taught me that she's thicker through the ankles than I am, so I'll need to tweak the pattern I roughed out for myself to get a custom fit for her. (Probably going to take a good hard look at the instructions for the calf decreases on the German stocking, though I can't just duplicate them because that pattern was cuff-down and I'd have to flip them.) But her foot size is about the same, so I can start with the toe and be working on that for now. I'm not displeased to be given another stockinette project to be working on while I read (halfway through Game of Thrones now), but that's an awful lot of knitting to get through between now and Xmas, so I'd better get started and see how much I can get done while I've got the time (and while I'm plowing through a massive fantasy epic). Guess the Warlock Socks are going to be sidelined for a while.
However, I also need to finish Grandma's socks, and I continue to want the Slippery Socks done, and since Netflix seems to have gotten my queue slightly screwed up (or maybe I did that), I got sent season the first of Teen Wolf, which half the people I'm still reading online seem to have fallen head-over-heels in love with, so I need to get that watched just to follow the conversations. (First disk watched and ready to mail back tomorrow, and I went ahead and watched the first ep of the second disk as well. Short season, at least -- but I'm going to need to torrent the second season. Better set those up now...)
Okay, I somehow have reached the end of my online "to do" list for today, and I'm really hungry besides, so this is where I close out as many browser tabs as I can as quickly as possible and go make a sandwich or something...
