Last night was fairly tolerable, though round about the time I was ready to go to bed I had to spend another few hours clearing some files off my thumb drive. (Seriously. This needs to be something I deal with Saturday -- a major backlog in the Pictures folder, going back months. It's going to take a lot of time to clear out completely.) And then I went to the Videos folder, since I also have a fanvids backlog, and those are such big files I figured it would be a very good thing to start getting some of them watched and off my thumb drive.
That was fun, though -- none of them were actually bad (the advantage of just taking the recs that show up on my friends list, rather than grabbing whatever gets posted to a vids comm anymore), and some of them were brilliant. Before finally going to bed I took the time to track down the links for the three I felt compelled to watch one last time before shutting down and sacking out:

True Blood - Amanda Palmer - Runs in the Family -- don't think I'd ever heard that song before, and then last night watched two vids using it back-to-back. This one was excellent.

Game of Thrones - The Flobots - Mayday -- I keep thinking I'm all Westerosed out and then I find out, not so much. (Still need to get around to watching
Damn It Feels Good to Be a Lannister, too.)

Doctor Who - Florence and the Machine - Howl -- turned out I've run across some really good Doctor Who vids in the past few months (and still need to go back to
calapine's journal to pick up some of the ones she's posted in the last few weeks), but this was my favorite of the ones I watched last night. Which was by no means all of them -- when my computer decided to stop letting me move or rename the vid files (claiming they were still being used by a program), I figured it was time to stop playing them and just go to bed.
So that was a lot of fun, and it almost distracted me from the discovery that my phone doesn't like my SIM card anymore, and restarting it and even doing a battery pull didn't help. So I'll need to call up T-Mobile to complain --
when I had the same problem last year, it turned out to be a result of having transferred the old SIM from my previous Blackberry to this one, since the old one had just plain worn out, and so the fix just involved taking the new SIM that came with my current Blackberry and installing it and having T-Mobile switch my account to it. Unfortunately I don't have a fresh SIM just sitting around waiting to be popped out of its card now, so I'm going to have to wait for a new one to arrive. And that means my Blackberry is going to be crippled for a little while. At home at least I've got the wifi, and some of the stuff works. (I could get on the internet last night to track down those vid links and send them to Tumblr, and Twitter was working, and I'm still getting my e-mails.) So long as I've got Kindle working (for a value of "working" that allows me to keep reading the book I'm mostly done with, even if it won't synch up my last page read to the server or let me download anything new, and it's turning out to be surprisingly convenient that my next read was going to be in paperback format anyway) and the app that keeps track of my financial transactions, I suspect I'll be able to tolerate not being able to make phone calls for a few days -- I tend to spend less than ten minutes on the phone in a given month anyway.
Back from lunch and my time up front. Didn't get as much done as I'd have liked to, despite working steadily -- this really is a monster account. But I did have an idea -- there's a small T-Mobile store I pass on the way home, and hopefully I'll remember to stop by and see if they can give me a new SIM card right then and there, instead of me having to wait on hold to talk to customer service tonight, and then wait around till my new card gets shipped to me sometime next week.
Been seeing references to this on Twitter, but the actual link came from
tilly_stratford:
Oslo: Bomb blast near Norway prime minister's office -- "A massive bomb blast has hit government buildings in the Norwegian capital Oslo, killing at least seven people and injuring several others. PM Jens Stoltenberg described the situation as 'very serious'."
Sidelinked from the above, something happier:
DADT: Obama certifies gay military ban repeal -- "US President Barack has announced the ban on openly gay people serving in US military is to end on September 20."
Right, winding things down. Happily, I have no plans for this weekend, beyond sleep and my usual "to do" list and knitting while clearing the DVR. Oh, right, and doing more clearing of my thumb drive.
