oOo

“Hey”, yelled Ookawa at me and slapped my back.

After standing up (actually, I’ve never thought that he has such a power in his arms that I would fall on the floor because of his greeting) and dusting my clothes I bow to him with a sneer on my face. Why do I feel so that our relationship is just getting worse and worse every day we meet?

“Ah, gomen. I… didn’t mean it to be so hard”, he scratches his head and acts innocently. There is no way I would believe him. I’m trying to grit my teeth not too loud. “Aren’t you feel well? There is no way for you to be so weak when you are healthy!”

“Would you mind me ignoring this question?”, I ask quietly. He doesn’t seem to be pleased with my answer. “Eh? Hm… are you pissed off or what’s with that mood? It’s so different from your usually gentle self, Ba-chon.”

Instead of getting even angrier, my heart misses a beat. Am I really acting so strange? Ah… yeah, things have changed. The performances only started a few days ago, and everything is like a chaos now. Thanks for everything to… Ookawa Genki.

Who’s just changed his surprised look to a quite amused one.

I don’t feel like asking what he finds so funny.

“I guess I know what’s with you today.”

Fine, so he doesn’t need any reaction from me he's going to tell it anyway. And would I like to hear what he wants to say? A huge, red, pulsing NO shows up in my head immediately, but something little inside of me doesn’t let me run away from this situation.

“You read it”, he says with a huge (I mean, giant) grin on his face.

“No, I didn’t”, I deny it without thinking.

“You did”, he corrects me.

“No, I didn’t”, I repeat. “And… please, don’t continue this conservation, we are going to be late”, I shake my head and start walking. In a few seconds, I can hear Ookawa-san’s steps and his long sigh from behind me.

He lets out a sigh again. And again.

After two minutes and few seconds it starts irritating me but now I’m trying to stay my “usually self”. I guess I’ve never had such a problem, but now I’m really feeling like losing myself. My steps are being slow and I stop in front of a big advertisement of the musical what we have roles in.

Ookawa-san stops as well and stretches his arms. We are standing next to each other in silent for a few minutes and listening to the sounds of the city. My head is totally empty, I’m still too ill to be able to think properly and I have a little partner with me who breaks my every train of thought anyway. What a pity, though, he seemed to be so cute and shy when I first met him!

“I really liked their roles there”, he breaks the silent. “I even preferred them to Kirihara this time. It’s unusual”, he adds with a smile. I don’t answer but he doesn’t seem to be bothered by something like my muteness, so he continues. “I wish I knew the authoress of that story. I would raise her hand for writing such a good fiction. The characters fitted themselves. You should take her Yagyuu like an example.”

“I don’t really think that waltzing with Masa and chaining him to myself would be the best way to portray Yagyuu perfectly”, I groan and ignore the fact that I make Ookawa sure that I’ve read the story after all. I turn to him with a tired smile on my face. “Actually, it’s kinda impossible that something like that would happen. And… for me, it would be the best to find my own Yagyuu in myself. It couldn’t be a mistake that Ueshima-sensei chose me. I must be able to do this role better than anyone. If there isn’t any other way, I will be Yagyuu himself”, I say and feel better immediately. Some unbelievable calmness hugs my body and I feel much lighter than before.

“Uhm… that’s sweet. Actually, I must say, I haven’t ever found anything wrong with your portraying of Yagyuu.”

I blink. And blink again. I do it for a few times more before asking. “Pa… pardon?”

He laughs at me and slaps my back again. I moan when I feel my lungs jumping in my chest. Even if… he is much shorter than me, his bashes are quite strong. I lean on the billboard. ... ouch.

“I said you’ve been doing a good job on Yagyuu. I’ve really enjoyed every moment when you are playing him. And as you said… you are Yagyuu himself.” His eyes are as starry as he just would have been informed that Santa is a living person and will visit him this Christmas.

Dear Santa. Please, write Genki-chan on the "bads' list" this year, okay?

I shake my head. I am left no legs to stand on. The poor billboard is the only thing what makes me not fall on the floor. “What did you say again? You’ve thought all this time that I’m a good Yagyuu and… and… then… why?”, I cry out loud. “Why did you give me the doujinshi then and what about the fanfiction?”

“Ah, you shouldn’t be so confused, Tooru. It was only for fun.”

“I can’t say I’ve enjoyed it.”

“And why? Don’t tell me you fell in love with Nakagauchi-san for real!”, he laughs at me.

I don’t answer. His eyes double their size.

“Oh. Holy shit.”

Yeah. It’s… exactly what I wanted to say.

oOo

“You two are late”, says Ueshima-sensei instead of greeting. Then he gives me a troubled face and asks quietly. “Are you alright? Are you able to make today’s show?”

“Certainly”, I answer quickly. He pats my back (in a lot lighter way than Ookawa did), and leaves the changing room. Everyone seems to be really busy with preparing to the performance, and the usually excited spirit makes me smile.

I’ve talked to Ookawa-san all way to here. He apologized me countless times for creating such a terrible situation for me and told me thousands of reasons why I should forget this Masa thing immediately. Not that I would contradict so much, but his argument was so right at every point that all my doubts disappeared.

Since hey, we really have no reason for waltzing together and actually, I don’t have any handcuffs to chain ourselves together. Masa doesn’t really look like a silver-haired person and I also don’t wear glasses and don’t have any abilities like “Laser Beam”. Not to mention, none of us is a junior high school student.

And… last but not least, both of us are guys. And… it would make things a bit difficult. A little bit. Probably.

“You miss this part every single time. And I should also miss it always since it would look terrible if I did it right and we weren’t in synchrony!”, cries out Kiriyama-san loud. Yuuki shakes his head. “Forgive me… but I can’t do it. Can’t we change it a bit?”

Kiriyama-san lets out a sigh theatrically. “Masa!”, he waves to my partner who was setting right his wig ‘til now. He stops immediately and turns to the one who called him. “Hai?”

“Come and help us out. Yuuki is like a slob today”, says Kiriyama impatiently. Yuuki doesn’t say anything just shrugs. The scene really reminds me of the Rikkai’s doubles two, I can’t help smiling while I’m playing with my shoelace.

“Show some simple moves that even he can learn”, asks the red-wigged guy. Masa seems to meditate about it for a moment, then (just like an illusionist conjures a rabbit in his hat) shows something pretty but easy at the same time. Yuuki looks amazed. “Ah, Nakagauchi-san… it will be great.”

“Thank goodness”, sighs Kiriyama. “Show it to us again.”

“Sure”, smiles Masa and teaches the new move to the guys in three minutes. Then they dance it again, and we give them a little ovation before the real show. Both of them bow gently and Kiriyama seems to be pretty relaxed now.

“You’re hilarious, Nakagauchi-san”, whispers Kento-kun. “Have you learnt standard dance as well?” Masa rubs his own chin then shakes his head. “No, I haven’t. But… once, I had to learn for a performance how to waltz. That was amazing, I always wanted to try the other standard dances since then.”

I freeze for a moment. When I look up, my sight meets Ookawa’s. His face is quite pale as well, just like mine. The lines of the story attack my mind.

“… he took Niou's hand, and the two of them waltzed onto the dance floor.”

I shake my head and let out a short sigh - it doesn’t mean anything, does it? Most people can waltz, after all.

The others praise Masa’s abilities for a while, but I can’t concentrate on them. Yoshi, I should care for my preparing to the show. I put right my wig and make sure that my glasses are clear and I can see everything. I take the eye-liner and make my eyebrows look a bit darker (it’s terrible how the eyebrows can’t be seen on the stage because of the lights), then I really don’t have anything to do.

“Haven’t you seen my eye-liner?”, jumps Masa next to me.

“Ern, no, but here is mine”, I offer but he shakes his head. “Yours is too dark, Tooru. Ah, it must be somewhere in my bag”, he sighs and seems to be pretty nervous. It must be because of the show, I guess, although he is the most relaxed one among us every time. Now, he shakes his bag like it solved anything - lots of his stuff fall on the table in front of me.

There is his cell phone, an MP3 player, lots of pens, some magazines. I notice the eye-liner and reach for it but my hand stops. Instead of the eye-liner I finger it over and it’s surprisingly cold. It must be metal, after all.

Handcuffs.

I start laughing without any reason and ask Masa amused. “Ern… why do you have something like that by yourself?” I can’t believe it. I simply can’t believe it.

“Every girl who passed through Niou's hands giggled when she noticed how Niou's right hand was chained to Yagyuu's left.”

“Ah, do you mean this?”, he looks at the handcuffs. “A girl gave it to me who’s been my partner at my old dance group. She babbled about something Platinum Pair or… I didn’t exactly get what she wanted to say.”

I can’t help laughing. Masa raises an eyebrow and looks like he doesn't understand my reaction.

“Guys, thirty seconds left. We’ll start immediately”, shows up Ueshima-sensei in the door for a moment. Everyone jump up and the changing room becomes a beehive in a moment.

Masa draws his eyebrows quickly then grabs his racket and runs out of the room. I give a grateful look to the handcuffs, then look at Ookawa. We are the only ones in the room, everyone has left already.

“Hm? What’s with that giant smile, Tooru?”, he asks me surprised.

“Nothing in particular”, I shrug then slap his back so hard that he almost falls. “Nee, Ookawa-san… would you give your doujinshi to Nakagauchi-san as well?”

He can’t say anything just blink in silent.

I can’t stand his sight and start laughing. “And then, please, show him the fanfiction, too!”

A bell is ringing somewhere. The show starts. Both of us start running and we make it at the very last moment. Ookawa misses three or four steps in the choreography at the beginning, he seems to be quite confused about what I said him.

But I… I guess the audience has never expected such a smiling Yagyuu that I give them this time. Thank goodness, none of them know that my reason for being so happy is the sight of a beautiful dancer… who will be chained to me once for sure.

If it’s about Ookawa and his genius skills, everyone can be totally sure about it.
