very scary dream
it involved a sphinx, in several different incarnations. In the first, it was just a scary monster that lived in the dark recesses of a cave. I was a companion to a wizard who could enter the minds of animals. We had to go exploring the cave. the sphinx ate the pig that the wizard was "embodying" (the only word that comes to mind). I barely escaped with my life, the wizard with his sanity.
Second incarnation, it could take over the minds of others. A whole party of us went after it to try and destroy it. It got one of us, and we fled the cave. Our companion, a young girl in midieval garb, was injured. She was right at the edge of the cave, trying to make her way outside, but couldn't, because the sphinx was controlling her mind, using her as bait. She reached out just far enough to us that we could grab her and haul her out, but the second we did, the sphinx attacked, dragging her and the rest of our party inside to be devoured. I don't know how I escaped that time.
Third incarnation, it could actually take on the bodies of the people it devoured. We went in, finally thought we killed it, but then it got into all of us and made us do horrible things. The wizard from the first version of the dream drew it out of us, but by then it was strong enough that it became corporeal right in front of us and devoured the entire kingdom.
My dreams aren't usually this vivid, this scary, or this . . . story like. Anyone have any ideas on interpretations, potential prophesies (yes, I believe in that sort of thing...or rather, I believe our unconsiousnesses can see things coming that we're blind to, and just suck at telling us exactly what they mean), or ideas on how I can turn this into a nifty horror story?
