So... after a spur of a good fic I reread last night... and in order to wreck some sort of revenge on ff.net that I don't know why... and since frankly like hll I'm packing at midnight
I decided to go through my favvys list ((all 120 something XD) and see which ones should actually exist on there. Being how when I was a young newbie to the fanfic world (just after I thought fanfics were weird warped things that were silly scary and smutty) I thought that ALOT of fanfics should be favvyed if I liked them and they seemed good
Later you learned just because its a decently written crossover betweent tolkien and tamora pierce... frankly... a: its a crossover b: its not really "that good"
So I realized some things I'm learning from this trip into the ff world of rereading
1. Good fics do exist. Usually you either can recognize the title/author straight off and see no reason to even open it since you reread it two days ago... so far I've seen quite a few of these...
Other ways to note good fics are when you're half way through and go "wow I'm still entertained" or you start serching for the sequeal, prequel, and then wanna reread that most recent chappy you didn't really understand cuz you hadn't read the story in a while (aka "I'm already there" "coming home" series by becky tailweaver I'm reading at the moment and suddenly realized I'm going to never probably get to the rest of the list if I keep this up XD) When online stories manage to make you go "Now i have to read the mega sequel ><) ya know its good ^^
2. Titles don't matter... alright.. so if you have a spectacular one or something that liek screams "this is a kaitou kid fic with aoko" or something to the fans it can catch your attention... but I was amazed at how many same title fics i've come across so far XD Actually I have a suspcioun the most recent CONAN chappy title has been used in fanfics and doujin for a title XDXD ((does that mean we can sue for now disclaimer? *giggles*))
3. I also learned LJ has this awesome little feature that restores drafts and has undo buttons when they go POOF ^^ who knew! ((I deleted this by accident from here up and nearly fell over-))
4. Also learned that really good fics will grab your attention even if youve been out of the fandom for years... its amazing ^^
5. And most importantly? When you find a great fic that you just can't put down.... and realize its one chappy from completion.... and hasn't been touched in 4 years?
Mabye you should go ahead and please your reviewers who are begging you to update that year old fic... even if you don't think its half as good XD (Only exception is that mary sue... I swear the ONLY reason its up is because in RL I'd be screamed at... >< and no ones flamed me yet so ><)
*giggles* I should also add its amazing fun to read fics from like... 2002 and such... when like series (books and animes) alike are like half as far as they are now- so so much has changed... everything from relationships to true identies ^^ Its fun
*giggles harder* I have to wonder however... that all the fics I have on there are either mega fics, short really cute make you giggle fics... or end either massively depressive or ambigious (whether its kaito turning away, aoko turning away, everyone dying, one dying, the question of will they ever returne etc etc) and the angsty ambigious are the most commmon *cackles*
Right.. back to reading and writing...
