Right-
Spur of the moment... unplanned random fic- As in I'm looking over the fact Kaito's name really is so close to Kaitou (i mean we knew this but now that I'm taking Japanese- well ya)
Anway I was pointing out how it was so pretentious of Toichi to name his son Kuroba Kaito... which roughly could prounounced just slightly off be technically "Clover Kaitou" *snerks*
And Eia goes... "Mabye his mother named him that to annoy Toichi"
.... I wrote it...
Its just cutsy and kinda nonsensical- first time really trying happy Toichi action and I even manaed to not name his wife *snickers* after all Gosho does a good job with not doing that
so without further ado
Disclaimer: Yup not mine

“You promised Toichi.”
The woman looked up from the bundle in her arms, glowering at her husband as if daring him to argue with her. Usually she was good natured, but when she decided to show her temper- “You promised.“
Funny how scary his wife could sound when provoked.
“But love! It wasn’t a very big one… and all I did was hop in and hop out and it was over and done with! Nakamori barely knew I was there!” He said in a low whisper, praying that none of the nurses looking in actually understood what he was saying.
“I was going into labor and you were at a bloody heist!!!”
Well there went that cover…
He winced trying to hide from his wife’s fury as he looked around for an escape, “Darling? Love? Beloved? You know I would never do it on purpose!” Well when in doubt classics always worked best. He pulled a rose from midair holding it up to her after a moment and setting it behind her ear. “You weren’t due for almost another two weeks…” he pointed out knowing very well it was a poor excuse. “I wasn’t even gone thirty minutes- you were resting and I was on my way to get groceries anyway and you see someone had sent out a false notice and Nakamori was already there and it was on my way to the store so I thought-”
“Precisely the issue! You weren’t thinking you idiot! You had better be thankful you got me to the hospital in time mister- I had half a mind to scream out everything in the middle of giving birth to your child.” She pointed out scowling.
He grinned, “And isn’t he a charming little boy? Just like his father… yes you are.” He murmured looking at the boy happily tickling his nose.
Looking at the scene between father and son his wife had a grin to rival Toichi’s. Giving him a few more seconds she said quite calmly, “Oh by the way- whilst you were off to your job I came up with the perfect name for our son.”
Toichi blinked looking up at his wife the complete face of innocence, “But I thought we were going to come up with something toge-” he stopped mid-sentence and mouth still open cowered a little, “However- I’m sure any name you come up with is perfect dearest…”
Best not argue when your wife very easily had it in her ability to maim, kill, and put you behind bars- and happened to have gone through a very painful ordeal. Much better to let her have her way- not that she didn’t anyway but-
“Oh I have no doubt you’ll love it-”
“Uh huh?” he said starting to feel a little nervous as he backed slowly away from his wife and child. For some reason the gentle caress with her child reminded him slightly of how he might hold his card gun, which was definitely a danger sign.
“Yup!”
She went back to smirking and rocking the child happily in her arms humming gently to him as Toichi stood near the door looking at his wife feeling more cornered then any heist had ever made him feel. “Ah… love… um… you wouldn’t care to enlighten me would you?”
The woman looked up, this time her face reflecting the same innocent expression his had held a moment before. Warning sirens began going off in his head as she smiled with all the love of a minor demon before brushing the only stray wisp of hair on her son’s forehead aside. “Shall we tell your father your name? Shall we hmmm?” The boy gave another pleased coo causing the woman to smile, “Oh all right, if you say so my little Kaito.”
It took him a moment. After all he had had a long night, and even as quick of a man as Toichi was his wife was one of the only people that really still managed to keep him on his toes. One of the enduring things about the woman really, and what had attracted him to her so much.
So it took a second to process before his eyes narrowed, “Love… Um… did you just say Kaitou?”
“Of course not idiot. No one would call their son Kaitoo” she drew out the last syllable longer then it was even suppose to as if making her point. “That’s asking for trouble.” The baby cooed gently in her arms as if agreeing causing the woman to smile. “Though with your genes he probably will be anyway-” she added mournfully. “No dearest. I said Kai-to.”
“Kaito.”
“Yes. Kuroba Kaito.”
The man blanched just slightly. He may be known for showing off, and sure he tended to flaunt his heritage and night job in very subtle ways, but naming their first son…
“Um… Love? Isn’t that a bit- er- pretentious?” He coughed lightly looking at the little boy who was now cooing almost gleefully in his mother’s arms.
She gave him a level look and the baby in her arms let out a noise almost like a laugh causing the woman to giggle slightly, “This coming from you? I think Kaito agrees that that’s quite a laugh.”
“But loveeee-”
She rocked Kaito paying nearly no attention to her pleading husband from across the room. “For one it’s a common enough name, and I felt it was quite appropriate when his father couldn’t even manage a few shorts months without purloining-”
“Ah- but-”
“And if someone hadn’t been returning some little trinket to a certain Inspector when I had to look over the papers-”
“I was gone for five minutes!!”
She paid no heed as she rocked her son gently as the boy made happy cooing sounds, “So its already decided.”
Toichi looked at his wife in defeat and sighed, “If he takes over the family business I blame you when he gets caught-”
“Well good. Maybe that will keep him from trying it ne?”
A mournful look reached the thief’s eyes, as he asked one more time with near pleading in his voice.
“Kuroba Kaito?”
“Honey I can’t very well change your surname now can I? And after all isn’t Kuroba a bit pretentious to begin with?”
“……”
“I make my point.”
