Peter carefully set the table. This one was not a regular but a special monthly meeting, and there were more than usual people attending. Sure, some of them were minions like himself (translation - nobody cared if they got a seat, let alone something to drink) but still, everything had to be perfect.
Simon and Ken arrived together, just as Peter put the last bottle of water on the table. They didn't acknowledge him, of course. Peter actually preferred it that way. It was best if they forgot about him.
Cecile arrived after them and then Barry Weiss entered the room. Peter only saw him once before, at the first «ALTR» meeting. This time, he had three assistants with him, all of them wearing a look Peter knew - a scared rabbit that knows the fox is coming.
"Hello, Simon, Ken" Barry nodded and sat down. "Nice day, isn't it?"
"Splendid" Simon said. "And it's looking to get better. Actually, I'm going to say this will be a magnificent year. Let's get started, shall we? First" he looked at Cecile "Cecile, my dear, you work with the Grammy committee. It was the work of pure art. When you first mentioned the idea, I was really doubtful. But, today, I want to give you a standing ovation". Simon actually got to his feet and clapped, followed by Ken and Barry.
Peter and the rest of the lackeys obediently clapped. When the nominations were announced, a little over a month ago, Simon was smiling from ear to ear. Cecile just commented If you want a job well done, give it to woman, cackling evilly. Peter went out and bought David Cook's album out of pure spite. He didn't actually like it that much, apart from a few songs, but it was the first thing he put on when he came home. Lately, he started playing Kris Allen's album too, for the same reason.
Cecile smiled a self satisfied smile. "Thank you, Simon. It was my pleasure. And, let's not forget your AMA deal." Simon smiled "And, of course" she turned to Ken "Ken snagging Oprah. Although, I received the call yesterday. They want to cancel the interview and just have him sing."
"What?" Simon turned serious in a second. "That is not acceptable. She will sit down with him for an interview and he will sing. You know what? Just for trying to pull that stunt, they're also air a short segment, follow him around the shops stuff. Who is the other guest?"
"Natalie Portman" Cecile read from her notes.
"Tell them to cancel it. I don't want anyone under forty to appear in the show.I know, Susan Boyle. Tell them they'll have Susan Boyle as the other guest. And if Oprah tries anything else, tell her that we also have a video. So, she better watch out." Simon grabbed the bottle of water and drank straight from it. Peter rarely saw him so angry.
"Simon, calm down. Everything will be alright." Ken said soothingly "Right, Barry, do you have the numbers?"
"Sure, they're all here. We're pretty satisfied, all things considered. Although, guys, I have to tell you, you used over sixty percent of Cook's budget. Even if we skip tv, there will not be enough for a promo."
Simon looked at the paper Barry passed over. He started tapping it with his Mont Blanc pen, a sure sign he was contemplating something.
"I want you to delay Cook's album" he said finally.
"Delay? It's almost done, cover art was approved yesterday" Barry said.
"I don't care. We are in full throttle here, we can't stop now. I need the money." Simon looked over at Ken, who nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, Barry, just yesterday I approved the callers for Fantasy Springs concert. We decided to go with some of the international fans." Peter actually heard italics in Ken's voice. "We decided that it would look better if there were some non US people there, more believable. And that costs money, I have to tell you. The price of tickets, refunding the hotel stay, we have to pay for it, Barry. And so soon after Gridlock."
"Ok, I guess" Barry still sounded doubtful, although Peter knew it was a done deal. "I'll delay it till the fall, how that sounds?"
"Good. If his people start making noise, tell them we have a few Idol appearances for him. That'll keep them quiet." Simon said ruthlessly.

"And, Barry, I appreciate your hard work regarding the other contestant's album."
The other contestant - it was never Kris Allen, it was always «the other contestant». Peter felt sorry for the guy. He was never going to have a career, as long as Simon Fuller's hatred was directed toward him.
"Sure, sure. It was pretty easy, I have to tell you. Also, just projections here, but we're working on it and we hope the album will fall off Billboards 200 around March."
"Excellent" Simon smiled. "Sabotaging the tour will be piece of cake."
"As for Adam, there is Japan, Australia and Europe. After that, he's all yours" Barry continued.
"We're planing to bring him back sometime in April. Although, we'll have to make it more than just appearance at the results show. He deserves more»" Simon was musing.
"I have some ideas, I'll send them over later" Cecile looked up from her notes.
"OK. And I just want to thank you for your hard work this last year. The Rolling Stone, Details, Barbara Walters, AMAs, Leno. You really pulled it off. There appears to be a great demand for Adam in the media. And, guys" Simon started laughing "just yesterday I read this article that started «American Idol winner Adam Lambert»."
Ken and Cecile laughed heartily, Barry joining. Minions chuckled dutifully, Peter among them. Today, he would play Kris Allen album first.

as for ideas:
how about a flashback to idol days and the whole 'adam is a plant' and pimping?
and maybe the guy who dropped the ball and let kris win is found dead in a ditch somewhere?

I admire your dedication to realism and foreshadowing of his mentoring.
(and since you asked for more ideas: rca/sony twitters, paparazzi paid to shoot him, paying off Sauli and Finland somehow, the ai s10 opening)
