idolbert lulz

Adam as a judge would be the day I stop watching.

That's sad. There's no idol contestant I feel that strongly about.

I personally I like Randy and Nicki as judges. The EW article writer calls them "empty vessels", I'm pretty sure because they have finally called-out her snowflakes, Kree and Candice for lately, turning in boring performances. I will admit that AI is trying to make Amber "happen" but who can blame them. The show needs a Kelly or Carrie-esque winner this year for the buzz. I love Candice's voice but she has already self-proclaimed on the show that she is "boring". I don't see much energy from Kree either. Her deadpan, Aubrey Plaza, interview style doesn't quite work. She needs to be a little bit more bubbly.
As for the panel of judges, this could have been fun if Mariah would have just let the whole clash with Nicki go rather than escalating it by calling Barbara Walters on The View and claiming -laugh here- she feared for her security. That was totally unnecessary. The lack of interaction between Mariah and everybody else on the panel is really irritating to me. I really would love to see Keith, Nicki, Randy, and J-Lo for next season. I know Nicki and J-Lo interaction would be a lot of fun. Mariah has proved to be as worthless as Britney was on X-Factor. Another $18 million down the drain.

I think Angie has lots of personality and performance style. She is IMO a better singer than Amber.

I totally agree with you Loretta. If Angie wins, which I think she will, it will be the biggest shot in the arm AI has had in forever! A beautiful singer/songwriter, who commands the piano, with voice, presence, and personality. The regular media will go nuts with photoshoots, interviews, performances (not some of the aforementioned, tired, cynical, poor-mouth, blogs but they will jump on the bandwagon when proven wrong). It will be Carrie Underwood 2.0 only better. Once that happens, everything resets for the show and topics like judges, themes, producers, etc. will be moot. We can get back to finding the next Kelly, Carrie, and Angie which is what keeps the show fresh. . . finding the next American Idol.

Sorry, but IMO Angie is NOT the next Kelly or Carrie. She is a Christian music artist who may be pushed into the mainstream HAC world if she wins Idol. She is NOT a pop artist and probably never will be. Never say never, of course, but I really think she has a much better shot of being a big star in the CCM world than she does of having huge success as a mainstream artist.

But why would the media be all over her? This season is getting zero buzz. The mainstream media does not care about Idol. They aren't going to suddenly start giving Angie (or whichever of the 4) a ton of media coverage. She will get the standard Idol winner treatment. IF she manages to pull a P2 and has a huge hit single, then maybe she would start getting a ton of notice by the media outside of the usual Idol-centric suspects. But that's a longshot -- not just for Angie, but for any of the 4 remaining contestants.

why do idolberts think angie isn't a pop artist? isn't she the one singing the most (curreent) pop songs from amongst all contestants? i remember reading old twop posts foreseeing that adam is musical theater and not pop and can't/won't make a pop record.

she's kinda like kris allen in that way. super christian roots, her musical stylings are very contemporary Christian - but that can easily crossover into pop if it's not overt.

i guess it all depends on what kind of career she'd like to have? kris allen's music isn't christian and if he had more charisma and didn't live in adam's shadow, he might have made it as a winner. i think angie's more charismatic than kris allen and she could easily go pop and be fairly successful if she won the show and let herself be marketed

i think live like were dying went pretty high on the CCM chart tho...which often seems to me to just be lyrically "inspirational" pop music with theistic undertones. I've never actually watched idol, but from what I've seen from youtube, I agree that angie def seems more pop-star ready

idt she'll have a career in pop, she's strange mix of manic and stiff and she looks too much like miley cyrus

i hope you know this is a fallacy. ppl said worse about phillip2 and he got a big hit becos his label pushed and promoted him. and that there is what it takes. she is non-threatening and a xtian girl, so no way would radio pds not play her songs if she well/adequately promoted i.e. see kelly clarkson. it is label push and promo that always make the difference.

but p2 is done. he just doesn't know it yet :3

and kelly is extremely likeable and she's a much much better singer. this girl comes across as fake and plastic doll-like

individual tastes regarding KC and her. also radio does it care if someone is fake or can sing and neither do they also consider the song. fact is they would spin who the corporates allow them to spin. if she has the idol machine solidly behind her, they would push as mush as they can. she needs to have them behind her and they would make her happen.

i wasn't talking about first post-idol cycle, i was talking about prospects of lasting career and likeability/authenticity/star power plays a huge role...rita ora is not new riri after all and roc nation pushed really hard to make that happen

anonymous April 28 2013, 15:13:56 UTC
two diff scenarios. rita ora got TONS of radio play, ppl just refused to bite. so rita is not a flop from the radio angle since all her songs were radio hits. i'm sure even tho she lacked the sales, most ppl would still say she is more relevant than adam for instance for the singular reason that she was a constant on the radio.

angie might be lucky and get ppl to connect to her sound. all she needs is radio support. once she has that exposure, she is given a chance to connect with ppl.

you don't understand what i'm trying to say

rita ora got TONS of radio play, ppl just refused to bite

exactly.

angie's shtick works for idol grannies- she's a good, christian, reasonably pretty girl who plays an instrument and sings well but even with full label/radio support she won't make it cuz she lacks charisma. just my opinion ofc

your description of her reminds me of how idolberts describe carrie underwood and isn't she the most successful idol alum with all her dullness & stiffness?

Reply

anonymous April 28 2013, 16:34:33 UTC
she's country tho. pop is a different beast

Reply

anonymous April 28 2013, 16:55:55 UTC
didn't you say she fits more as a christian singer? i assume she would go country since that is the closest genre to that.

honestly, i don't believe all the things you listed actually matter even if she is pushed to pop. if pds spin your song, you are most likely going to get an audience, so all she needs is radio support. katy perry is not exactly a charismatic and more plastic than her, yet she is one of the biggest names in pop. check out also carly rey jepsen or whatever.
