And we’ve arrived at the semifinals, and for the second straight year, the last women standing include Dame Maggie Smith, Harry Potter author JK Rowling, and last year’s eventual winner Helena Bonham Carter. (And, just like in 2011, all of our Doctor Who companions bid farewell in the quarters.)
This year, however, the wild card is Katie McGrath, Merlin‘s Irish-born beauty who took out 2011 semifinalist Emma Watson in a fierce battle last week. She lends an unpredictability to the semifinals - and may set up a final match that will be truly fascinating. (And we thought Hiddleston/Cumberbatch was hard-fought.) But, of course, who makes that final two will be determined by your votes. Make those cold calls, get those tweets out - the 2012 title is on the line. Semifinals voting ends Thursday, August 9 at 11 am ET.
