Well... this weekend was Cirque Trip round 2 and it actually happened! The show did go on! So the majority of the first crew that went to see cirque could not make it due to prior engagements, so it ended up just being Casey and I going. So we hopped into the Taupe mobile and headed over to minneapolis. Mmmmm... Cheesecake. Went to Muddy Paws, yummy yummy cheese cake they make, yes (sorry, yoda just was here and I caught onto his lingo). Saturday we were going to go around uptown, but I was called in to doing a catalyst demo at Ruehling Associates. Well, this demo was for a guy from Europe that is going to be building a new nightclub in the heart of the minneapolis club scene. He wants to bring in all sorts of new things that you would not find in clubs around town, including the catalyst system. So I spend 3 hours talking to him and showing him products (sorry again Casey for making you sit around). After much explination of what it takes to run a catalyst and the moving lights/LEDs he is going to have at the club, he decides to use me as the designer and consultant for lighting/catalyst at the club!!! This is sooo awesome. I'm going to have a club in minneapolis!! He's looking at having a huge 16'X20' screen on one side and several 17" monitors around the club that are pumping catalyst, european fashion show footage, live cameras of dances, etc.. through them. This is a serious install that will look great on my resume.
I digress. The best is still yet to come. So after all of that, we find that there is no time to go around uptown so we grab a snack and check out the mansions on the hill that overlooks I-94. The drive gave me a few ideas for what my mansion/labratory will look like.
We park the car in VIP (oooohyeah... we are VIP all the way). We get into our private tent where are greeted with free champagne, wine and
chardonnay. Can I get a "whut whut" for free drinks?? We mull around the tent checking out all the merchandise (there are some ornate masks and scarfs). Time for the show to start! We get to our seats which are in the front section, back row, perfect for watching the aerial acts without havig to strain your neck. The show... oh... the show... It was most unlike ANY other cirque production that they have done. It was ornate, full of more charachters you understand. It followed the death of an old clown and all of his fellow circus people wishing him well on the way. Ok, one of my favorite parts of the show involved putting a midget (oh sorry, I mean 'Small people' as I was informed they prefer that term that evening) in a harness connected to a bunch of ballons that let her float and then putting her out IN THE CROWD like a beach ball thrown out to the audience during a concert. It was the coolest crowd surfing thing I had ever seen.
INTERMISSION-
We go back to our private tent (laughing at people that try to get in that aren't VIP. Yeah... we've got 'I'm special and you're not cards around our precious necks). This time we are greeted with more champagne, but also Starwberry Champagne smoothies!!!! Can you say whoever thought of that is a genious. Those things were so delicous.. I cannot beigin to describe... but I will try to figure out the recipe and when I do, ya'll can get the hook-ups. In the tent there was also a chocolate fountain where you can skewer different fruits or marshmallows and have them get covered in chocolate. We feel so sexy looking all spiffy and drinking champagne that we have to get a picture of ourselves (photo to come). 5min warning for the top of the second half is given (casey and I both want to say "Thank-you" but realize we are not running a show).
SECOND HALF-
This consisted of a hilarious rendition of Romeo and Juliet done by a "little people" couple, a guy doing amazing thing on a ladder and much much more. Well, anyway.. I'm not going to spoil it that much for you.
AFTER THE SHOW-
We go back to our tent and I buy this cool murse (man purse=murse, NO IT'S NOT A PURSE!) made out of retired Cirque tents. We get a gift bag on our way out of our glorious VIP tent that has some CDs in it and a chance to win more cirque tickets for the shows in vegas.
Sunday-
Well, I have to go in and help for what should have been an hour at Circus Juventas. They are re-mounting part of the show for some banquet for rich people. I save my boss's ass by being there to re-patch the show and figure out where everything goes. I'm then invited to do the January show that they will be mounting. Not sure what it consists of, but a show is a show. My boss and I then get into a conversation about what my new role this summer will be at Ruehling Associates. I can't get into details right now, but it looks like I will be doing mainly creative work and teaching. Sorry again Casey for making you sit around while I work.
Casey and I then go shopping around uptown, we both get things and kick ourselves for spending money. We have a delicous lunch at Zeno Cafe then head back to Green Bay.
OH.. what a wonderful weekend
