this whole thing is terrible

it's worse than cigarettes and you know it

we are our own publicists. talented spinsters promoting an image of our lives.
live your life for the sake of living it... not for the sake of having someone else recognize and acknowledge it.

i know it seems like we're not doing that... we just 'keep in touch' using myspace or livejournal or friendster or whatever - but these 'tools' are the manifestation of a problem in all of society; its evident on the radio and tv... it's evident when people write their names in graffiti, when people buy soy lattes, when someone picks dare...

it's the obsession with appearances. it's our abit of constructing our lives for the sake of presentation. turning our lives into a spectacle, trading real life for the appearance of real life.

[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ we prefer the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality . we'll watch a movie about falling in love before we'll risk falling in love

my highschool yearbook was called 'looking foward to looking back' and that sums up the whole problem. we dont enjoy the moment as much as we enjoy looking back on it. the way the media would have us see it, if we dont commidify and advertise something (take pictures and post blogs), it might as well never have happened.

it's not merely deception by mass media, it's a worldview that's actually been materialized and accepted. a view that eveybody sees as objective. - - - and i know it's hypocritical to post, i thought i might embrace hypocracy in order to speak out against it...

say what you want

however

this thing is childish at best          and i want out.
