My best friend, Christian, (no web persona to link to that I know of) occasonally commissions me to assist with decor or costumes. In this instance, he asked me to create a stencil based on a flocked wallpaper pattern.
Last time I created stencils, I cut the patterns in pieces of clear vinyl from a big roll from the 5&10 store - results not so good, as the plastic was too malleable and thus the surface was a bit stretched and crumpled - the paint, of course shqlurped under the uneven edges. Drat.
This time, I acquired a little Mermaid placemat from the dollar store, which was mostly transparent - far more rigid, and I'm thinking that the results will be pleasingly sharp-edged. Rather more difficult to carve out with an exacto knife, however. Alas, I wish I had an image of the wallpaper to show you... my interpretation takes considerable liberties. But i did trace the stencil results using my drawing tablet.
Any irregularities are due to the hand-crafted nature of the product, are charmingly quaint and something you will gladly pay dearly for. Yeah.
