hefty gravitational pull

so! I did go out last night. First stop: a show by Sandy Cleary, singing songs of Laura Nyro. I'm familiar with her as she used to perfrom as singin' king, Rod Thruster. Sandy was in excellent voice, and put across a song that she acknowledged as hokey, cheesey, by Laura Nyro... but her wholehearted unironic rendition of `Serious Playground' really worked!

I don't know if Sandy will return to the king thing, but who knows... she's off to live in Chicago, to be near family and also to see what another city is like. It took a couple of years to disengage from New York's powerful, many-tentacled draw...

Hmm. I'm sort of bewildered, myself, by the notion of moving elsewhere voluntarily. I know there are other nifty cities, even with some queer scenes, that are also more affordable, and even a few that are in the US! but as I don't much enjoy or afford travel, or wrenching from my rut. I may never know. Yet I'm also curious about life where the public transportation doesn't stink. [How's the BART these days?]
