*tap*tap*tap* Is This Thing On?

So... referring back to that last post from... 13 months ago...

I said that I would write something more substantial in the future.  Well the Future Is Now.
What have I been up to for the last year?  Quite a bit.  Disconnecting from Facebook and LJ (and MSN for the most part) has been most rewarding.  I have spent a lot of time raising my girls - experiencing things with them.  Rahne is in grade four now.  I cannot believe I have a daughter in the fourth grade!  And Avril is in the first grade!  What a trip!  They both have reading abilities about two years beyond their ages in both French and English.  Rahne is taking recorder lessons at school and joined the youth group at my mother's church.  She's a very outgoing girl.  Avril has a prowess at video games and is more introspective and quiet.  She is still as fierce with her emotions as she was a year ago but is learning how to use them better, to her advantage.  She's also talking quite a bit more - there are much few fears about her ability to interact with others now.

I've been working hard and actively seeking a promotion.  This is a big deal because it means I would have to move.  In the last year I have applied and interviewed for a variety of positions in a number of places such as Winnipeg, Regina, and Edmonton.  I've also considered Victoria and Sudbury.  So far none of the interviews have borne any fruit but I keep taking those experiences and stocking them up for the next time.  Eventually I will get the chance and sooner, probably, than later.

Personally  I have met someone new - She's a pretty awesome young lady who is attentive, attractive, original, funny, full of charm and wit.  Her name is Jenn and, trying not to get ahead of myself here, my life feels complete again for the first time in a long long time.  She loves the girls and they love her right back.  All in all - it's a good thing for everyone and I am happy to be happy again.  Check out her LJ here at

miss_caliope ...  She truly is an awesome woman. :)

My website - Although not a lot has been added to the front end of the website in terms of new content there has been a tremendous amount going on behind the scenes.  I submitted a chapter for a book about Thunder Bay history that is due out sometime before Christmas.  It was accepted and it's going to be published!  Three of my pictures have been added to the Ontario Jewish Archives as part of their permanent collection.  Another one of my pictures has been added to an exhibit at MIT about the life-cycles of Sea Lampreys and efforts to slow/stop their spread in the Great Lakes.  I bought the URL for my website at thunderbayunseen.com and started tracking the traffic to my site in order to see what people are looking at.  I've been contemplating re-joining Facebook and creating an affiliated Thunder Bay History group.  And I've been researching and taking pictures for two years now.  I've got some pages in the final stages so hopefully I get them up before the book comes out.

Books and Movies and Video Games.  Last year I reached 100 movies and will do so again this year.  This year I will finally reach my 50 books as well.  I'm also pretty close to 12 video games this year as well.  Not too bad.  What's in the machines right now?  Fallout 3 DLC on the Xbox360, as well as Katamari.  In the DSi it's Scribblenauts and ChronoTrigger.  And in the Wii is Guitar Hero Smash Hits and 8-Bit is Enough.  The books on my nightstand are both S.M. Stirling - The Sky People and Ice,Iron, and Gold.  Last week Jenn and I went to see Whiteout at CinemaCity (Very grand in scale, very limited in scope.  Save your money).

So - I have now added to my LiveJournal.  I will try to keep this up.  Honest.
