A Midsummer Night’s Dream
By William Shakespeare
IN SHORT: Sock ‘n’ Buskin Theatre Company is proud to present the William Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows four youths involved in two simultaneous love triangles. Running from their controlling parents, the youths flee their homes, and encounter a bitter Fairy King and his mischievous attendant, who give them insight into the stuff of love and dreams - and the meaning of both.
NOVEMBER 16-18 & 23-25. FOR TICKETS ($12/$8) CALL SOCK ‘N’ BUSKIN 613-520-3770
Sock ‘n’ Buskin Theatre’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream turns the classic tale on its head - the setting is aggressively modernized, although very little of Shakespeare’s text has been modified. While the tale is set in Athens and the youths flee their urban homes for the anonymity and protection of the forest, the Sock ‘n’ Buskin production has the suburban youths hide in the city’s gritty, grimy downtown core. The iconic fairies, too, have been updated: rather than ethereal creatures of fancy and frolic, Sock ‘n’ Buskin’s fairies are transformed into more appropriate downtown residents: street youth, Goths and punks.
