Job Hunting

Jan 20, 2007 10:09

So my yearly job hunt has officially begun again for next year. (Actually, it never stopped from last year, there are just finally new jobs actually starting to be posted now.) I applied for one in pasadena last week, we'll see if they call me for an interview or anything. There's one posted for San Bernardino City Unified. I'm not sure whether I'm going to apply for that or not. It's awfully far from whittier, so it seems like i'd still be doing an awful lot of commuting (although i think it would mostly be against the normal flow of traffic). and moving closer to that job would mean moving closer to my family (which for me would be a plus). Where my family lives is about halfway between whittier and san bernardino. *sigh* I'd just rather not have to deal with that much commuting anymore. No matter where I end up teaching, I know i'm going to still be commuting regularly to whittier for chorale bel canto, aokp, and to visit friends and such... so i still want to be reasonably close to whittier, without having to commute too far to work. San Bernardino is really pushing that limit... *shrug* we'll see though. I have until the end of the month to apply for that job, so i'll keep thinking about it until then.

I went to a seminar the other day about how to deal with difficult, defiant, and unmotivated students. I'm hoping it will be helpful to me. The strategies and things the guy talked about seem very reasonable and functional, so we'll see if it ends up making my life any easier and manageable.

A couple of my friends made the "make a drawing/artwork of some sort every day" resolution for 2007. Shing is actually sticking to hers pretty well, and posting all kinds of pictures of stuff she is making and drawing. it makes me wish i were more creative and/or had more time to do more drawing and creating of stuff. *sigh* I miss the days of being a college student- I really didn't appreciate at the time how great it was to have classes that forced me to be creative and challenge myself artistically. and didn't need to justify spending time on that. now i'd feel guilty taking time away from all the grading, lesson planning, house cleaning, etc. that needs to get done. speaking of which, i should go do some of that. I have a birthday party to go to today at 1:00 (for Katie, Becky's baby who just turned 1) and still need to go shopping for a present sometime before then...

hope all is well with all of you. take care!
