In previous posts, I've mentioned our new bathroom. What I have not mentioned is that we put in a hardwood floor rather than tile, since the builder convinced us that it would work (its a water-resistant Brazilian cherry), and it was a lot less expensive. Whether that is always true, I cannot say, but it was for us. The hardwood guy cautioned us not to use anything but water to clean the floors, presumably because of the danger of removing the polyurethane finish. Well, Peachie Girl was cleaning something, and she had a bit of cleaner left on the rag, and there was this dirty spot on the floor. Do you see where I'm going with this?
The area she cleaned looks great. Nice and clean and... slippery as ice. She discovered this by walking on it and landing on her elbow. Ouch. Now she leaves a pair of jeans on the spot to remind us not to walk on it, until we figure out how to fix it. ::sigh::
One a wholly unrelated point, members of the VAA may have seen my posts, looking for a sleeper sofa sound effect. You see, there is a scene in episode 5 of the
Misfile radioplay where Ash opens a sleeper sofa. I wasn't really worried about getting it since we actually owned one of these things. I figured that I could just go downstairs and record it. Ha!
P.G.'s mother gave her some money for furniture lately, and she decided that our couches were too old (they were, true, but they worked, so...) Anyway, I found out about this when the movers came. Now, furniture stores tend to be mammoth places with 14' ceilings, and the couch probably looked great there. ::double sigh:: After 45 minutes of failing to get it into the library, I had to take the door off its hinges. The old couch had a back which was just barely higher than the radiator cover in front of the window. The new one...? About a foot higher. I think it would fine against a solid wall, but I hate it where it is, as it blocks the bottom part of the window. But it was on sale... Out of protest, I have not yet put the door back - I keep hoping that the couch will sort of sneak into a different room.
Oh, and we mustn't forget the Law of Conservation of Furniture. You cannot bring new furniture into the house without taking some old furniture out. Remember the sleeper sofa? So... I went downstairs one fine day to record its sound. Gone. Absent. Vanished without a trace. Or... actually, given away to a friend.
It could have been worse. It wound up in said friend's basement, and Peachie Girl and I paid her a visit. The two of them visited quietly in the kitchen while I recorded the couch in the basement. So... I have my sfx, P.G. has her mammoth couch, and we just have to figure out that slick spot in the bathroom!
