Act It (rounds six and seven)

Hmm... Missed a week, did I?

Round six, as I mentioned earlier, was "auditions." The judges created a mock audition thread with a wide variety of characters, male and female, live and cartoon, human and animal and other. Each contestant could audition for as many or as few characters as he or she desired, but the round was scored cumulatively: 3 points for the best audition for each character, 2 for second best, and 1 for third. Any mispronunciation or missed word disqualified you.

It was amusing; it was also interminable. On average, I think each contestant sent in auditions for about a dozen of the characters, so there were well over a hundred auditions to judge. I think it took something like six hours for them go through them all, recording their critiques and deciding on the winners. The episode was the longest (with only eleven contestants) since round three, which had more than twice as many.

Last week, we then had Round seven, which was quite amusing. Each of the ten contestants had to select a role to play in the round, from among those the judges had created this season or last. The judges then wrote five original scenes, each of which matched up a pair of the selected characters in way that they had never paired before. Six of us chose roles we had done before, either this season or last, two chose roles they had won in the audition episode, and two chose roles that they had never done. This proved to be a mistake on their parts; four of the scenes came out great - the one that didn't featured the two who had risked unfamiliar characters. Coincidence? Listen and decide for yourselves!

act it!
