Dylan Collins, co-producer of Act It! is now running the seventh season of his Sing It! competition. The audition deadline is tonight, and he already has 48 people in the contest, and expects to add eight or twelve more, due to lots of last-minute auditions.
In the first round, he has divided the contestants into "teams" each of which is to do a song from a different decade. I have to do one from the 1980s, so I will probably do a song from Les Miserables. There are a lot of good singers in the competition, and some of the challenges will no doubt involve Rock music, which is not one of my strengths, but we'll see how far I get this time.
Each episode also contains some parody songs, intended to advance the "plot" which involves all of the contestants being on a bus, being tossed off when they lose, and the various teams jockeying for position. I have written lyrics for a couple of these songs - one, sung by me to the tune of "High Flying, Adored" from Evita, about a contestants scorn for those who were still auditioning, and one sung by Sam Haft to the tune of "Laundry Day" from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, about his team's attempt to take over.
