My teacher form chinese 102 (the level of chinese i took right before coming to china) is visiting the students from UB studying here. I ran into him as i was coming home from a delicious meal that boris treated me to for my birthday (Tuna Melt, Hamburger, Chicken Alfredo, Chilli Fries... yeea, that\'s how we do it here.) Anyway, Tian laoshi (my teacher) was excited to see me and we talked in chinese for a bit. After a couple minutes of conversation he told me he was surprised with how much my chinese has improved. He went on and on about how he didn\'t expect my speaking and listening skills to have imporoved so much and asked how my reading and writing is. I told him in general that my grades in reading and writing were better than speaking and listening. :) :)

I told him that i might be going to Ha\'erbin and he gave me his home phone number to call him because he lives jsut an hour or two outside of Ha\'erbin. Actually it is his mom\'s house and he said he wouldn\'t give his phone number to just anyone but my pronunciation is good enough that his mom would understand me. :) :)

Squeee... as i\'m preparing to leave and return to an all english-speaking environment i have been questioning how much my chinese really ahs improved. In terms of language skills was the time, effort, money, sleepless nights really worth it? What better judge of my improvement than the teacher who taught me just before i left? wheee!

This is a happy happy fuzzy.
