I'm sure analise010 doesn't mind that I answer you. A podfic is basically fanfiction read out loud. Like a audio book of a certain fanfiction you like. Through recording it it gets other layers as well and IMO it's so much fun to listen to podfic.

So when someone asks for a podfic do they mean they want you to write something and then read it, or read them one of their favourite fics?

If they offer you a podfic it means they're willing to record a fic you love for you. That can be one of your own fics or one of another author (if you have the permission to do so by said author).

There are podtogether collaborations out there (one writes, one reads) but that are challenges not swaps.
