My sister's birthday was yesterday. I sent her a Professor Layton game for her DS since I have personal experience of how bad my parents are at picking useful presents. Ahh the important tasks of an older sister... XD

I may not be able to do much about it than donate again and hope it does good, but I’ve been following the news of in China and Burma for a while and the striking differences in how they’re handling things. For all its flaws, China is at least taking action. Perhaps it’s even selfishly motivated due to the past criticism of the SARS outbreak or the world’s attention thanks to the Olympics, but at least they’re doing something. Burma, meanwhile, doesn’t even seem to care what the rest of the world thinks. Reports of high energy biscuits being replaced with less nutritional ones, supplies being taken by the military that may or may not distribute them properly, etc. It’s frustrating.

On a side note, I knew one person who said they “didn’t feel a thing” about disasters such as Katrina, 911, and the tsunami. It wasn’t that they felt guilty or disliked bad news; they just “didn’t care”. Those were his exact words in private. In public, meanwhile, he pretended to care, all to keep up appearances perhaps. I hate people like that. Even if I don’t feel a direct connection to the people in such instances, or I don’t cry or get depressed, I still think it’s a tragedy. One can feel sympathy for strangers.

And good luck on your exams.
