I have conquered the HDR compression algorithm!! I don't see the cute little dragon with a big white belly but a lovely, detailed, HDR compressed Venice canal! :D
The main problem lay in my own stupidity and lack of concentration. If I had read the paper a few more times and paid more attention I might have been able to figure this out a lot sooner. It's a good idea to make that a habit in scientific/calculation-related stuff. Do every step thoroughly or you'll waste twice as much time going back trying to figure out what you did wrong.
