Title: Us and Them
Notes: Short, 209 words, "Kobol's Last Gleaming Part 2" setting. Kara/Helo. I love Helo, I really do. I'm just never too sure what exactly to do with him...

And when she falls back into his arms, fighting for breath from crushed lungs, barely able to stand even with his help, he looks through her for a moment. For just one slight moment, he sees in her the Kara he knew two years ago, when she first came to Galactica. That one was the lonely, grieving, overly-aggressive Kara, the one who resorted to drinking and physical violence to shove her pain out of the way. When her arms snake around his neck and they gasp to one another about how she missed him and he missed her, he thinks back to the nights when he would hold her while her nightmare-fiancée died over and over again in the dark. He thinks about it fleetingly now and then, and has realized that she never let him see the photograph of that nightmare. He’d never pushed it, but somehow it had always kind of stung, no matter how much he tried not to let it. He breathes her in, blood and all, and hopes in the space of a heartbeat that he can help her again. Be there for her when she needs it.
He snaps back to the moment, though, when she draws his gun on Sharon the Toaster.
