So hey, I am now an actual paid intern at an actual local small press! I get to read slush, which means that I am probably the first person to look at a given book and my opinion on it is what makes the important people look at it, so basically I am the secret master that controls the writer’s fate. I’ll try not to let the power go to my head. Try.
There is some irony to be had in this-I’m pretty sure I only got the position because of my experience with Clarion West. My four-year degree? Irrelevant. Six weeks of unaccredited education has officially done more for my career than four years of a fancy BFA.
I could sob about this. Or I could go eat sushi and read A Clash of Kings. Pretty sure I know which one I’m gonna do, given that I’m hungry.
