Are there many kid-friendly movies where the hero wields a gun? I don't remember.

Our house has always been full of Tintin. I read the comics over and over while I was growing up. I don't even remember where my parents got all of them; from what I can recall, they were just there, and so of course they had to be read until the covers fell off. Let's put it another way: My brother once went as the red-and-white rocket for Halloween. The rocket. So yeah, my family's kind of big on Tintin. When I heard that there was going to be a motion-capture movie, I wasn't terribly worried that it would bring shame to my childhood, because hey, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, between the two of them they can probably pull it off.

Having now just seen the movie, I can say with confidence that oh yes, they definitely can.

The animation works reasonably enough, but oh man, everything is basically just wonderful. The action is marvelously well-choreographed, the writing is fabulous, the voice acting is great, it's pretty much one big excited ball of Adventure. It's just so very earnest about what it is, and that shines through. Plus the opening credits and first minute of the movie are basically just HEY THIS WAS BASED ON COMICS LOOK AT THEM AREN'T THEY AWESOME AND PRETTY. You kind of have to respect that.

--and then, because it has been a long and educational time since my childhood, I immediately go looking for the kink meme. I am torn between telling myself that if the slash goggles are stuck so firmly then I might as well enjoy it and giving in to the knowledge that I am a terrible terrible person oh god my inner child must be weeping in a corner. whyyyy slash goggles whyyyyyy ;_;

the fic's pretty good though

I'm just saying

i like directors, i like comics, i like movies, i bring shame to my family, tintin
