And now I will go do homework forever, or watch anime and then do homework forever. Yes.

Meme time, from thewaterbandit:

1. COMMENT WITH A MYSTERIOUS COMMENT OF YOUR CHOICE.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters beginning with that letter and your thoughts on each.

1) Jacuzzi Splot, Baccano!

Jacuzzi is one of my forever boys. (He is pictured here with Nice, who is one of my forever girls. Baccano! has a lot of awesome characters, is what I am saying.) He is terrified of everything, and yet, in a show full of psychopathic murderers and nigh-unstoppable assassins, he is the most hardcore of them all. Do not fuck with his friends (or people he has only just met but considers to be his friends because that's how he rolls), or the short scrawny kid who cries at everything will fuck you up. He got a big-ass facial tattoo just to make his burn-scarred best friend feel less alone. When he was ten. Now said burn-scarred best friend is his girlfriend and they steal shit together while being totally adorable because being hardcore motherfuckers does not actually make you very good at that whole "not staying virgins forever because you are both too terrified to do anything about it" thing. (Although post-canon they do get married and have kids, apparently. I can only assume it took them several decades.)

2) Johan Liebert, Monster

Johan is an interesting fellow! On one hand, I spent the entire series wanting him to die. On the other hand, most of that was probably due to my just wanting the protagonist to not be so miserable all the time. Johan is a very villainous villain, but he is an effective villainous villain, which makes him much scarier than the other assorted bad guys who pop up throughout the story. He doesn't even need to get his hands dirty, yo; he can talk people into killing themselves just because he can. And he does love his sister! Even if maybe she does not want that so much. Johan puts me in the position of being legit conflicted about whether or not I like the character; his occasional moments of "oh poor me there are such tragic reasons for my sociopathy PSYCH JUST KIDDING I WAS ALWAYS LIKE THIS" force me to give him props, but, well, I really, really don't want the protagonist to be so miserable, and Johan is the cause of like 99 percent of that. So: conflicted. But in an enjoyable way!

3) Justy Ueki Tylor, Irresponsible Captain Tylor

Did I mention I have been watching Irresponsible Captain Tylor? I have been watching Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Justy Ueki Tylor is what happens when someone is hit with a combination of Too Dumb To Live and Born Lucky. The universe really likes him but the leaders of the military he joined for the lulz really don't, so they make him captain of the spaceship they use as a dumping ground for all the personnel they hate in the hopes that he will fail in such a spectacular fashion that it takes out the rest of the crew too. Unfortunately for them, he 1) cannot be killed by anything, anyone, or any force whatsoever because as I mentioned he is just that lucky, seriously if you shoot at him the bullets will all miss and he won't even realize what you were doing and 2) cannot actually fail at anything if he doesn't want to, either. Note that this does not mean he is particularly good at anything (besides being ridiculously adorable just look at that face); it just means he crosses the threshold of incompetence to the degree where it comes right back around into brilliance. Is he really that much of an idiot, or is he the greatest military strategist the galaxy has ever seen? We may never know.

4) Jessie and James, Pokemon

Firstly, shut up. Secondly, shut up. They've been in more episodes than anyone besides Ash and Pikachu, just by virtue of being pathologically incapable of giving up. Are they terrible at their job? Yes! Very much so! To a degree not previously thought possible! Will they let that stop them? Hell no. You have to admire anyone who can get electrocuted, burned, frozen, thrown off a cliff, attacked by giant bears, and punted into the sky every single episode in an over-650 episode series and still keep coming back for more. Also, their ~friendship moments~ are way better than any of the ones Ash has with his always-temporary companions, because they actually tend to have a lot more emotion put into them than the ones the good guys get. You think the first movie was a tearjerker? Wait until you get to the episode where they release Arbok and Weezing. Fuckin' Butterfree had nothing on those two. Also they are walking Parental Bonuses. "I haven't seen so many strange letters since I put out that personal ad" when looking at the Unown, James? Really? That is an actual thing that was said in a kids' show? A censored kids' show? Whatever, I don't even.

5) Jo Grant, Doctor Who

I mentioned my forever girls? Jo is one of them. Jo may well be their queen. She (along with the rest of UNIT) was my first companion, although I didn't think much of her at the time, since I wasn't watching her better episodes. Now, though, she's my favorite Old Who companion and in quite close competition with my favorite New Who one (and I suspect she and Donna would get along very well). She defeated the Master with nursery rhymes, people. Sure, she was a ditz, but how many ditzes decide to be trained escape artists and then work for a secret military agency because it might be fun? Her exist was one of the most quietly affecting ones in all of Old Who, and something of a relief when compared to the trauma-fests New Who likes to pull on us. Plus she was one of the comparatively few companions to leave the Doctor on her own terms, with no coercive forces other than her own desire to find a different way to save the world. To my shame I haven't actually seen the SJA episodes where she returns and apparently induces more nostalgia than ever thought possible, but with the passing of Elisabeth Sladen I suspect I shall have to soon, if only to see how marvelously she and Sarah Jane handle meeting their respective successor and predecessor.

pokemon, irresponsible captain tylor, sarah jane adventures, baccano!, i has a meme, monster, doctor who
