One of the things that people are doing is posting their Yuletide nominations, so! I shall do that also! Last year I had the joy of writing for one of my favorite things ever, and I am in fierce hope of getting to do so again, which is why I have nominated a bunch of things that I really love and most of you know nothing about:
Natsume Yuujinchou (probably I will not get to write the weird unhappy porn I have not been writing in my head for months and months now, but you never know)
Baccano! (big surprise there)
Durarara!! (see above)
Monster (hey, I know all the canon now! and am slightly terrified at the thought of trying to imitate it, ha ha)
Princess Tutu (much like Monster, except actually if you count all those crossover drabbles
bookelfe and I have been doing I've technically written both of them already so maybe it is not so intimidating)
and, out of the blue, Gokusen! Because sometimes five days are all you need to know that you are totally pumped about something.
Related to that last point, I've now seen the first two episodes of the jdrama, and they are...pretty okay? But I'm not feeling it as much as the manga. Part of this may be that they are downplaying the whole teacher/student thing (actual dialogue from the first episode, in a different context: "Teachers should not make students their boytoys!" But what if the student's totally up for it, huh? What then?) in favor of pushing the other love interest, but the other love interest still is not very interesting even if you make him a cop, okay. The lady who plays Yankumi (female lead) is actually pretty rockin', but the guy who plays Shin (the interesting love interest) emotes too much. Half of Shin's charm is how apathetic he is! Even big emotional goings-on only warrant a slight change in expression! Also the actor does not have red hair, and obviously Shin's hair color is essential to his character. Essential. (Actually, very few of the students look like their manga counterparts--mostly because you are not allowed to have unattractive teenagers on television, I suspect.) My biggest gripe, though, is that apparently each season has Yankumi going to a different delinquent boys' high school and never mentioning the inhabitants of the previous ones, which. Not every character can be the Doctor, okay. It makes me sadface. (Would Shin be Rose in this comparison? Of course he would.)
