Usually I would have gone to bed two hours ago! --today is not usually, apparently.

My roommate is apparently going to be socializing here until the wee hours of the morning, so I am going to talk about some of the other anime my friends and I have been watching! You see, we are lame enough that we watch four shows at anime club on Saturdays and five of our own choosing on Fridays and Monster on Mondays, so really we watch quite a lot. And here are a few non-spoilery thoughts about some of them!

Cardcaptor Sakura: one of my friends was very into this as a child, and the other reads Tsubasa, and I am starting to read Tsubasa, so it seemed like a good idea to actually, y'know, discover where two of the main characters came from. Which helped, because when I started Tsubasa I could not bring myself to care about Sakura and Syaoran at all, and now that I actually know them I am much less ambivalent! (I still like Fai and Kurogane better, though. Because. Fai and Kurogane.) But anyway, the show itself is very fun and cute and the fourth-grade romance aspect veers between "actual fun dynamic" (Sakura and Syaoran), "amusing but so very doomed" (Sakura's crush on her older brother's, ahem, best friend, yeah good luck with that honey), and "um I was not aware of this" (Sakura's classmate and their teacher, I don't even, what). And the costumes are adorable!

Saint Seiya: in anime club we are watching the OVA Lost Canvas, which has actual drama and genuine emotional impact and breaks my heart every time a particular character appears on screen; the original Saint Seiya, by contrast, has a guy restart another guy's heart by punching him on the right part of the dragon tattoo on his back before it fades away and he dies. My friends and I classify it as a comedy, because to call it anything else would be deluding ourselves.

Samurai Deeper Kyo: we have created a drinking game for this. Every time someone says "Demon Eyes Kyo!", you take a drink. The current record is 21 times in one episode. One 22-minute episode. It is fortunate we play with Crystal Lite, I tell you what. Also, there is a point where a character decides to disguise himself as a woman so he won't be recognized at a tournament, and asks his subordinate ninja to get him a female kimono; the subordinate ninja pauses and asks "...can I get one to my own taste?". And later remarks to himself that his boss looks pretty good in it. Yeah. Anime, man.

Mirage of Blaze: --so my friends found this AMV of a whole bunch of yaoi, most of which we didn't recognize, and for some reason we picked one out that turned out to have plot and stuff, what the hell. Granted, it has been four episodes and nothing dubious has happened beyond some easily-misinterpreted lines ("I don't know how! I've never done this before!") and a man who's been reincarnating himself in female bodies for 200 years, but the opening features shirtless hugging-from-behind, so I remain optimistic. Also the plot is kind of interesting and the main character is hilariously angry at absolutely everything that happens. And we are pretty sure one half of the pairing is voiced by the Count from Gankutsuou, so! Bonus!

My Bride Is A Mermaid: --yeah so the title pretty much says it all, but it is actually kind of hilarious (mermaid yakuza oh man there are no words) and there is a guy who sometimes has a shark head. And female characters who are not particularly annoying! Granted they are not particularly interesting either, but come on, the show is called My Bride Is A Mermaid, you have to adjust your expectations.

samurai deeper kyo, mirage of blaze, cardcaptor sakura, my life and welcome to it, gankutsuou? more like gayketsuou, tsubasa reservoir chronicle, saint seiya: the lost canvas, saint seiya, my bride is a mermaid, yes i am really very odd, i like anime apparently
