I didn't quite have the courage to buy the stuff with the, uh, dubious covers this time
One of the best things about finally having a drivers' license: being able to randomly go to the bookstore and check out the manga section there! I haven't been to that store since I got into the stuff, so I was not really sure what to expect. Guys. Guys. It has everything. It was openly displaying Junjou Romantica in the 'New' shelf! It had all of FMA! It had Loveless and Ouran and Kyou Kara Maou and pretty much everything I've sworn I fully intend to legally purchase some day! I AM NOT USED TO THIS. Fortunately my will was strong and I only bought the second and third volumes of Ouran plus the first two volumes of Sayonara Zetsubo-Sensei, but still, oh man.
The official English translation of Sayonara Zetsubo-Sensei is a little weird! There's a page in the beginning explaining all the honorifics, which. I am pretty sure the average manga-reader knows what '-sensei' means, but whatevs. Then there is also in the back a huuuuge list of every reference the characters make in the volume, which on one hand is helpful because probably no one but the creator understands all of them anyway, but on the other hand is so very amusing, because it is huuuuuuuge. Oh, Sayonara Zetsubo-Sensei. Never change. Also, the specific translation of the 'I'm in despair!' speeches is different from what I'm used to; it's 'I'm in despair! I despair of [X]!', which does not have quite the same ring to it as 'I'm in despair! [X] has left me in despair!'. TELL ME I AM NOT JUST BEING PEDANTIC. The variations of Japanese-to-English translations have left me in des--/bricked
Ouran, though, is just so ridiculously happy, goddamn it would be the best comfort food ever. If, y'know, your idea of comfort food was over-the-top shoujo shenanigans. Which it could very well be! It just fills me with so much joy, I don't even. ♥♥♥
