exciting adventures! exciting!

It occurs to me that, due to actually doing active things in the Hetalia fandom, I've recently acquired a number of friends who watch me for such things; thus, since presumably they would be interested, I might point them towards these picspam things I do every now and then. Why should I mention this today, you ask? Because today there is an update. (Well, a while ago. But I'm telling you guys about it today.)

Team Gallifrey was doing their usual huddle, China was hanging with Martha and Rose, Italy was...you know, I'm not sure what he was doing exactly, but he seemed happy, and Gandalf was observing it all with a watchful eye. Pretty peaceful, all things considered.

Hell, I'd even brought my bag upstairs so England and Japan could have a chat. They like to do that sometimes. England gets a little lonely just sitting on the bench near the front door all day, and much as Japan has learned to respect China, he really does enjoy spending time with someone with whom he's had an actual alliance.

So like I said, not remarkable. Well. There was the reason I'd come up to check on them in the first place, of course. The neighborhood, you see, was about to get a wee bit bigger. I told everyone to listen up and pay attention, and then, well, let's see how it went.

Really, the room had needed another girl. Martha and Rose never complained about it, not exactly, but you could tell they felt a little isolated sometimes. Plus I wanted to give them someone they could really talk to, y'know? Not have to worry about protecting them from Team Gallifrey or whatever. So Hungary was the logical option, really. And she did seem happy to be there.

China and Japan were the first to check her out, of course--neither of them had much in the way of association with her, other than her work for the Axis in WWII and her involvement in the Communist Bloc afterwards, but they'd always respected her and she was more or less kin to them.

I hauled England over so he could say hi, too. He didn't have a whole lot of history with her either, but he does try to be polite.

Finally, Martha and Rose got to her. And there were sparks, let me tell you. I knew I'd made a good decision. Hungary told stories about her days as a nomad, Rose revealed that in her early days she'd been one of those little girls who were crazy about horses, and once Hungary's interest in the subject was revealed, Martha gabbed about the Doctor and the Master until I thought the poor nation might explode from overexcitement. Yeah, Hungary was gonna fit in great here.

...then I had to cough and remind her that she hadn't come alone, and possibly she should introduce her gentleman companion?

Now, Austria isn't always the easiest to get along with at first. But Martha and Rose are very, very tolerant of people with difficult personalities, and they accepted Hungary's vouch for him. Besides, isn't he just the cutest little thing? Yes he is! The man himself declined to say much. I suspect he was a bit put out he was going to be living in a place with no pianos whatsoever.

By that time, Italy had managed to disentangle himself from the lamp and eagerly rushed to meet the new arrivals. (Italy, like the other keychains, has difficulty standing up on his own, so Martha kindly volunteered to help him.) Hungary and Austria practically raised him, even if Austria was kind of a dick at the time, and he was very excited to see them.

Austria, still being kind of a dick, wasn't particularly welcoming towards Italy, but Hungary all but hugged him when he got close enough. (Keychains have difficulty hugging, too.) They had a very happy time catching up--though Hungary was saddened to hear that he didn't have a Germany to play with, and she gave me a Look. I tried to tell her that there weren't any more figurines available and I hadn't found a keychain with a design I liked, but she was having none of it. Well, she'll just have to settle for the Doctor and the Master, won't she.

Eventually I got the others to give the couple a bit of space. Meeting so many new people at once can be a bit overwhelming, you know. And, being an actual legitimate Couple, it stands to reason they might appreciate alone time a little more than any of the others would, wink wink nudge nudge know what I mean.

But now it was Hungary's turn to cough and mention that the introductions weren't over yet. Color me surprised, because I hadn't heard about that. But then another figure appeared on the table, and, frankly, I should have known.

Hungary was extremely apologetic about the whole thing, explaining that really they couldn't leave him on his own, he gets bored so easily and when he gets bored he gets creative and it never ends well for anyone, and Austria muttered something about Hungary having Ideas, and Prussia himself was just standing there smirking at everyone. I could have exercised executive privilege and taken him away, but I honestly wasn't sure where I would put him, and besides, the guy was sticking kinda close to them. I got the feeling he wouldn't be much of a problem if they were there to rein him in. So I said he could stay. They all seemed very relieved.

The rest of the Hetalia crew, minus the ones who live in the bag and didn't want to make the trek, came over to inspect the potentially troublesome new arrival. But all in all, I don't think any of them minded him either; he might not be a real country any more, but he's still one of them, and familiar faces are always good when you're living far away from home.

Swear to god, I only went away for like a minute to go to the bathroom, and when I came back Prussia was trying to make the worst friend possible. Ain't no way I was gonna let that happen.

Thankfully, Martha agreed with me and took matters into her own hands before I had to do anything. Another issue with being a keychain: it's very, very easy to be manhandled by the action figures. I think he probably liked it, though.

Now, the rest of Team Hetalia might have been okay with Prussia, but Italy was downright ecstatic. Germany's brother! He just about inundated Prussia with every question he could think of--how was that version of keychain!Germany doing? Was the food there any good? Did Germany ever talk about him?--and I had to very gently remind him that that particular version of keychain!Germany probably already had an Italy, and wouldn't be quite the same anyway. That brought Italy down. I felt kinda horrible about it. But Prussia just kept grinning and answered every question exactly the way Italy wanted to hear. I thanked him afterwards, of course--Italy had been not-very-quietly languishing over a lack of Germany ever since his first day here, and I hadn't had the heart to tell him that he wouldn't be getting one any time soon. But Prussia had made him feel better, and that was something to be thankful for.

Not that this stopped me from noticing the glint in Prussia's eyes when he said comforting Italy was no problem at all, and I pushed him back towards Hungary and Austria with the firm reiteration that if he was going to be allowed to stay here they had better keep a damn good eye on him.

Unbeknownst to me, however, trouble was lurking on the horizon.

You have to realize that I honestly had no idea Russia had gotten out of the bag. Keys are heavy! I assumed they would impede his movement enough for him to not be able to leave unless I was supervising him! In Soviet Russia, keys chain you. Except I didn't count on him being a wily little bastard, apparently.

So you might be wondering why, exactly, Russia being out in the open was A Bad Thing. To be honest, normally it wouldn't--nobody in the room really sparks his interest, and he'd probably be quite civil. But now, well. Remember that thing called the Berlin Wall? Where Germany was divided into two and he got control of one of them? Yeah. Guess which one it was.

Fortunately, Gandalf sensed the danger and intercepted Russia before he could get any further.

Both Gandalf and I explained in no uncertain terms that Russia was to Leave Prussia Alone, or he wouldn't be allowed to return to the room at all--any time England wanted a visit, Russia would be carefully removed from the bag and placed in a sealed Ziplock downstairs a holding facility. There would be no reenactments of the Cold War in my house, thank you.

And then it turned out I had a regular Beetlejuice on my hands--say his name often enough, and...

Prussia doesn't get scared. Not obviously, anyway. He's more the bluff-it-away-with-false-bravado type. But I could tell he definitely wasn't happy to see his old oppressor again. Still, he put on a brilliantly smirky defense; there may have been remarks about whether or not Russia was having any fun being away from his family and not allowed to return to them. Ouch.

So I was grateful for the further reinforcements, really.

China provided a calming influence via shared communism, which was great, because I didn't want Russia to feel like he was entirely alone. That sort of thing only breeds nastiness. And Japan, friend of Germany that he was, made a great backup for Prussia. I didn't want to get Hungary and Austria involved in this--Hungary didn't have great experiences with Russia either, and Austria would have gotten extra-defensive and I didn't need things to get any more complicated--so I breathed an audible sigh of relief when Russia finally backed down.

Back at the bag, I gave England a Look for having let Russia leave. He gave me one right back--what, like the guy literally incapable of moving away from the bag could have done anything about it?--and returned to his tea. I really need to get that guy an America. He could use the annoyance.

After that, everything started to relax again. Everyone had met the newbies, there were no tragedies about to unfold, and Italy was back to doing...whatever it was he had been doing.

The plastic on Hungary, Austria, and Prussia is a little thin, alas, and so they won't be living the active life when I go back to school and an active life becomes possible again. But the room is a nice enough place--lots of company, plenty of books and comics and gay porn, for Hungary to read, even a pretty nice view out the window. I think they'll do fine.

And thus ends another exciting day in the lives of the denizens of my room. Whew!

...for now.

Bonus: the day I got them was the day of Prussia's first real appearance in the anime--with Austria, nonetheless!--and I felt the need to take a couple pictures of them with their slightly-more-2D counterparts.

Plus Hungary wanted to see her hubby. Aww, she looks so happy.
