3:10 to Yuma: great music. Seriously great music. It's up for an Oscar, actually, and I haven't seen any of the other contenders besides Ratatouille (which I don't really remember the music for anyway), but I sincerely hope it wins, because it is awesome. The movie is rather less awesome. It's got...plot issues. Logic, and all that. But it's very pretty, particularly in HD. And Russell Crowe does a damn fine job in it. But the main reason I like it, other than the score, is that there is a time where the two main characters--who have been cultivating a strange sort of "I'm a criminal, you're taking me to jail, I keep riling you up but I think I kind of respect you" chemistry for the entire film--must spend a few hours alone together in the bridal suite of a hotel with a pair of handcuffs, and, well. Well, indeed. (It does help that they're played by Russell Crowe and Scruffy Christian Bale.) When my dad asked me what I thought about the movie, I was actually tempted to mention this, but sometimes self-censorship can be a good thing. So I then made haste to Yuletide, and found a respectable number of stories, all of which containing a certain measure of quality, and a few of which making use of the aforementioned scene, but none of which actually went into any kind of detail with the aforementioned scene, dammit, so I am left unsatisfied. All I want is Russell Crowe and Christian Bale having sweaty, desperate hatesex with maybe some handcuffs, Lord. Is that too much to ask?
