Take The A Train

My New York experience is complete.

This evening, after enjoying the antics of the cast of The Jekyll and Hyde Club, Sarah, Olivia, and i were riding the subway from Midtown to Greenwich Village, chattering about one thing or another and oblivious to most of the world. At a break in the conversation, i turned slightly to my left, stumbling into a chance encounter with Godfrey Simmons. Godfrey, who apparently said hello while i'd accidentally ignored him, was a Residential Professional Theatre Associate for my final year at Cornell. We'd become friends over several elevator rides, a handful of overlapping late night rehearsals, long lines for coffee at Collegetown Bagels, and my job as a desk monitor at the Center for Theatre Arts. Always a friendly and smiling face, he managed to elicit conversations from me, a trait rare among strangers. Despite this fact, i hadn't seen him since Spring Break 2005, when Sarah, Nathalie, and i ventured back to Ithaca for a few days. Lovely individual though he is, i'm doing well if i manage to talk to Nat and Sarah regularly...and i used to see them everyday. Somewhere in the contact hierarchy, he fell to the side. Very nice to have him sporadically reappear, if only long enough to say hello (and make me feel a little guilty about misstating his name, which i did, as he proceeded to ask me about law school in Ohio).

Having experienced for myself the small world phenomenon in a city of eight million people, it is time to move along. Tomorrow afternoon, i head off to Ocean City, NJ for a week with my extended family. Sun and Sand and Beach, oh my!
