Ultimate J-Punk Beats

Feb 19, 2007 12:39

About a month ago I embarked upon the extremely daunting task of ripping my entire collection of J-Punk records. 90% of this stuff was released on Snuffy Smiles records while the remaining are releases by bands that were part of snuffy smiles, but did a record elsewhere. Then there's the odd unrelated but equally awesome record like Sawpit's 7" on Ebullition. Japanese pop-punk on Ebullition? You bet.

First I had to find all the records. In the end I dug out 56 CD's (I'm not going to rip Snuffy Smiles releaeses of entirely non Japenese bands, like the Travis Cut discography, the Pope Record, Fun People, Smalltown, etc.) and 92 7"s, but I'm sure there are still a few missing. This morning in fact I remembered 2 7"s I had missed.

Unfortunately I have no idea where my Grace 7" is, nor the first Cigaretteman 7". Appears they will be chalked up to one move too many. Remember friends, no record left behind. That is a presidential campaign I'd get behind.

Anyways, Snuffy Smiles is most known around the world as the label that teams up ass kicking Japanese bands with big name bands from around the world. J Church, Discount, Hot Water Music, Modern Machines, One Reason, Ann Beretta, Braid and many more have done records on the label. None have been able to offer up better songs than their Japanese a-side brethren. Here's a pretty complete discography for you:

It's missing some of the newer records (Fifth Hour Hero/Navel split anyone?!?!) and sadly, I only have about 2/3 of that, missing mostly very early stuff. Anyways, I have the day off and no work to do, so I'm ripping another 30 7"s. I'll update when the entire project is done and if any of you want to get an obscene amount of ass kicking j-punk that spans more than 10 years of time, let me know and I'll find a way to get it to you, if I have to mail a dvd of the files even. Or, if you're a member of a certain bittorrent network that rhymes with schmindie schmorrents, then I've been uploading everything there. So far, everything I've uploaded is still active, so hop on that shit already. If for no other reason, you need Navel's version of Kamala's Too Nice.

And hell, Chris, you could do an all Japanese version of Underground Communique.
