My weekend recap -
Friday
I worked a couple hours at the UG, for Club Underground. It was kinda stressful at first because Banfield and I couldn't figure out why we couldn't get Jimi's stuff to come through the system. In the 3+ years that we have been doing Club UG, I have watched Chris set the stuff up but I have never seen the whole process. I know enough about sound to get myself in trouble. So I sat up Jimi's tables to the best of my understanding and was really hoping and praying it would work. Long story short, we got it going. Go us!
Steve, from True Note, came up to the UG to get some cds for a mission trip he was taking. And I got to talking with him and I was like well if ya want you are more than welcome to come over and raid my cds to have some more stuff to take with ya. He was giving away the cds to the people they came in contact with during the mission trip. The funny thing is that morning I was sitting there thinking about how I needed to do something with my cds. I have so many and many of them I upload and never actually play the real cd again. So he came over and raided.
Saturday
For some reason I woke up at 7:30am and I couldn't go back to sleep, which frustrated me. So I got up and messed around and got ready. Matthew and Bradley were showing up at 10am so we could leave to go to Indy to watch the
DCI Midwestern Championships.
It was fun. The RCA dome is interesting. It just made me wanna jump on the roof and bounce around. As for the competition - some of the bands were ok and some blew my mind. I tooks some pics from my camera phone, they are at the bottom.
In the morning session I really liked
Pioneer and
Santa Clara Vanguard. The shamrock picture is Pioneer and the star is Santa Clara.
In the evening sessions I really liked
The Cavaliers,
The Phantom Regiment, and
The Madison Scouts. Others were good but those stand out to me.
Here is the link to the scores.
The Cadets won.
Sunday
It was rough getting up after getting in late, but I did it. Got to church earlier than normal even. Praise band was fun. Jeff was cracking me up. Speaking of cracking me up, we played Lord You Are Good, which has this cow bell part. Well one time I went to hit the cow bell and caught my thumb on it and goodness did it hurt. I was yelling inside. I kept playing because that is what you do. And then not more than 30 seconds later I cracked the same thumb on part of the rim of my djembe. My eyes welled up that time. Well we get done playing and I got off the stage and looked at my thumb, there was a purple bump on one part and my thumb was all swollen. I started putting ice on it and it hurt. But this morning when I got up the purple was gone. It's still a little swollen. I think I am gonna work on finding the gloves you can use to play hand percussion with.
The rest of the day had it low points (moments) and had some fun moments. Overall the low moments are still echoing in my head and the fun ones are lost in the shadows.
I'll say this much, people amaze me. We have the capacity to be amazing and full of life and the love of God and we have the capacity to be full of crap and vile and hurtful. And we can be both within a breath. I may write about it all later but right now the wounds are too fresh.
That's all for now.
