Pro-Choice Holocaust survivor

Tom Lantos was the a member of the House of Representatives and also a survivor of the Holocaust.

During his time in the Congress, he got a 100% rating from NARAL (the top pro-choice organization in the country).

While I Do Think That Abortion Is Wrong vakratunda February 15 2008, 05:28:31 UTC
I don't feel that I can tell anyone what to do with what's inside their own skin. This is because I believe in individual sovereignty: that no one has any right to tell someone what they can or cannot do with their own person.

So there should not be laws against either abortion or suicide in my opinion.

I don't believe that the government should be paying for people's abortions: but then, I don't think that the government should generically be involved in people's health care.

I believe in the rights and choices of every human being, and the fact is there's a small human being inside of that woman, and I believe they have rights. I am not talking about giving this mother the right to live out her life or not, but this baby inside of her.

The foetus is a dependant part of the mother for the early part of its life: it is not sovereign, it is subject to the mother. As long as this is true she gets to say what happens to it (let me repeat that I don't believe that abortion is in any way good or right).

I mean, what about internal twins? Don't they have a right to life?

[T]he twin can remain alive as long as it has a blood supply, and it may develop a primitive spinal reflex system. If it gets a lot of blood, it can also develop recognisable features. "Some have limbs and fingers."It is true that a foetus is a very early stage human being and I don't have a problem calling killing one homicide. There are three kinds of homicide, however, culpable, excusable and justifiable: not all homicides are murder. A foetus is also a kind of parasite: did you know that if the mother doesn't get enough calcium in her diet the foetus starts taking it from their bones (this is not the only example of parasitism by the foetus ( ... )

I wasn't really trying to start a debate.

I was just pointing out the irony.
