I bumped into a guy on a hiking trail in Hawai'i once who heard me mention Cleveland and actually knew of Oberlin (friend of his went there) while my companions did not. Small world.

I keep meaning to spend more time downtown before I graduate. Cleveland is a pretty city.

I'm glad you're giving the old salt town some love. Cleveland needs it. I went home and I was shocked by how things had gotten worse--like on Euclid Ave. and Prospect. Shaker seemed as surreal as ever... perfect and green... but everything between it and downtown looked like a war zone.

I was reading on wikipedia the other day that Euclid actually used to rival 5th in terms of elegance and busy-ness! Who would've thought!

Some day soon I will ride up to Cleveland and take some photos, and I'll let you know when I do.

For almost fifty years, but Cleveland never did rival New York City in size ever. By 1910, the elegance of Euclid avenue was a thing of the past. In other words, I feel that Euclid Avenue started it's decline right around the time Rockefeller moved his business from Cleveland to New York City. Once in New York, Rockefeller did very little philanthropy in Cleveland!
