Snow and all such.

We are getting wailed on this year as far as snow goes. More is coming down as I'm writing this and half the kids in school are going off into fits thinking we'll get out early. Well, considering it's almost 1:00, I can't see that they'll let us out that early, so I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Yes, I was right, the cosmic forces that rule my life realized their error and have bombed me with homework. Yippie! Well, at least I'll have all weekend to do it in. And it was worth it, cause yesterday afternoon/evening was great.

Piper and I went skating first. The lake is really in excellent shape for it, the ice is smooth and fairly even. In fact, when I get home today, I'm going to shovel it again, just to keep it that way. I managed to snag Mom's boom box, after promising her I would protect it with my very life if need be. So, we only used it as a football a few times.

Just kidding. No, we put it on the bench so it wouldn't have to touch the cold, icky, ground and cranked it up. We took turns with music. One of my CD's, one of Piper's CD's. Of course we tried to pick music that is good for skating to. In other words, dance type music.

So we did some serious skating for a few hours, stopping only to drink hot chocolate, which I'd made and carried down with us, because it was pretty cold out. That stuff does help warm you up.

You know, skating makes you really hungry, so when we finally called it a day for that, we flew into town and went to the pizza bar place. I think they lost money on both of us last night, cause we sure dug in. Yes, Piper is human and doesn't eat nearly what I eat, but she ate really well last night. Fortunately, it was slow, so the waitress was able to keep up on bringing us drinks. That's another thing about playing in the cold, it makes me really thirsty. I must have had 10 glasses of Pepsi and they use the big glasses too, not the punny little ones.

So, we were there for a long time, but like I said, it wasn't busy, so no one was trying to rush us out the door. When we were done eating, we talked for awhile. About school and other things. It's interesting now that she's in college, because we have some basis for comparison. I mean, college is a lot different from high school, I grant that, but at least she knows what a classroom looks like now or what a black or whiteboard look like. Although I don't know if they have any blackboards in her school. We still have a few classes with them.

When we were done, we flew home. The little ones were in bed by then and so were Mom and Dad. What a shock, huh? Yeah, I strongly suspect they weren't sleeping, cause it was kinda early for them. But, that's something I don't really want to think about, you know?

It wasn't really late, so we made some more hot chocolate and sat in the kitchen and talked. You know...I realized the other day that Piper and I do a lot of talking. I mean, we really do a lot of talking, but we never run out of stuff to say to each other. I mean, we do end up hashing over the same things sometimes, but usually we start with something, like how our days went, then one or the other will start asking questions about why we did this, or why someone else did that, and the next thing we know it, five hours have passed and the discussion has gone into the workings of people's minds, or religion, or politics or something. I get the feeling if we were trapped on a desert island for ten years, we'd be talking when they found us. "Oh, we only took breaks to gather up more food, so we could talk again!"

You know what? That's extremely cool. Some folks spend all their lives looking for someone who they can talk to and never do.

Yikes, bell just rang, study hall is over.
