234: Utopia

Utopia? Bullcrap.

There's no such thing as utopia, and I'm going to tell you why. There's no such thing as utopia because everybody has very different ideas of what makes a perfect world. Some people think a perfect world would be a world where everyone lives peacefully with one another and people don't fight over stupid crap. Other people think a perfect world is a world where they can endlessly reap the benefits of other people's work and never give a damn thing back in return.

The latter "utopia" is the one I come from. I was on the winning side of things, for a while. I was smart, so I got a scholarship to one of the best private schools in the country, subsidized by my future employer Alchemax. I worked for Alchemax, and I rose to the top of the genetic research division. Then I got a good look at what we were doing to people, and I no longer wanted to be part of it.

So they tried to screw me over. I tried to screw them back, and I got powers out of it, powers I used mostly to keep myself alive and occasionally to stick it to their little utopia.

The thing is, you can't allow one person or one group of people to determine for everyone else what a "perfect world" is going to be. Because that one person or group will probably amass enough power to reshape the world in their sick and twisted image unless you have the testes to step up and stop them. I know that from experience.

Utopia. No such thing.
