He had silenced the voices within that would have possessed him years ago. They stilled whispered like winds in his mind but he chould choose not to listen. The man in front of him was speaking and his voice was distant like a storm receding. Leto knew what he had to say already; the paths into the future where like threads in front of him. Which one to pick? Every decision would shift on to a slightly different path, but in the larger scheme, this particular choice would make little difference in the larger scheme of things.

"Kill him." Leto rose from the Lion Throne.

The man's eyes widened. "I beg you, forgive me! I didn't..."

But Leto was no longer paying attention. This life was not important. His death was, well, not important, but it would make things a little more interesting a few centuries from now. In this crowd, two would turn against him. In two hundred years their rebellion would be crushed by an Atreides, who would eventually understand the Golden Path enough to fulfill her part.

Leaving the audience, Leto headed back to his own chambers. There were other things on his mind. He could see the future of his own universe unfolding, and he alone had the power to save humanity. As for universes outside, he could see only fragments now and then, and the person he longed for the most was invisible to him.

Alice had called him but she had hung up, and there had never been an answer on that number after that. Leto had tried, every day. What that mean he could only guess, and he wasn't used to guessing.

Leaning back in his chair in the privacy of his own quarters, he picked up the phone again.

[I'm back from vacation. Also, open for phonecalls. NFB due to distance]
